This has been previously available but here's a slightly longer version that runs a little more than a minute longer, including the referees introduction of the fighters which was previously missing. They're spreading... sand? Or something of that nature around the ring. Kitty litter? I have no idea what's going on. This content is protected
Back in those days they used to use the resin bucket quite liberally. It is why you still see a ref wiping gloves from a fighter after a knockdown. You didn't want to get resin in a fighter's eyes.
Don't recall if there was any issues with other bouts on the card where fighters were slipping. Incidentally, there was a fight on this card I would truly love to see again. Haven't seen it since '71. It was the non-title fight between flyweight champ Erbito Salavarria and Mexico's Halimi Gutierrez. They aired both of these bouts on separate telecasts. To this day I haven't seen speed like what Gutierrez demonstrated that night in his win over the champ. He even dropped him with a left hook that was like lightning. Now, Russ, I would love it if you could dig up that fight. Or even if someone has a December '71 issue of Ring that had a 2 page article on Gutierrez which I've never seen and would love to.
Man, sounds rare & potentially very elusive... I'll absolutely keep my eyes wide open for it and if I ever come across it it'll be at the very top of my to upload queue...
