What will it be, a tko over a battered Curry or a clean knockout from an uppercut? Don Curry was a classy fighter at his best, but he was no match for Mantequilla.
I think Curry boy is getting shafted on this thread.... Had Curry retired for good after blowing his WBC 154 pound title to Rene Jacquot in 1989 and never fought again, his legacy would be much more respected... The fact he held on to get hammered by "Nunn & Norris" in 1990 and 1991, plus get battered some years later by an unknown is what haunts his ass to this very day... BUT! Joe Naps was battered by Monzon in '74 and again by Stracey in '75, so Joe Naps didn't actually go out a winner, either... Still, thank Amon-Ra he saw the light and retired without hanging around for more ass kickings / losses...... I still think the 147 pound version of Curry from 1984 and 1985 spanks the great, but much smaller Joe Naps circa 1970 around the ring for either a late rd. TKO or decision win.... MR.BILL
Luf, "Arguably" is the key word.... Nothing more; nothing less... BUT! I see 1970 Joe Naps NOT being able to deal with or handle 1980 dude's like "Leonard, Duran & Hearns" at 147 pounds.... So, no, to me Joe Naps is NOT the greatest 147 pounder of all-time.... Top-10??? Sure.... SR.BILLARDO:bbb:hatgood:yep
Laugh if you all want to, but, I'm not so sure I'd favor a '70 to '72 Joe Naps to beat a very near great welterweight in Marlon Starling of 1984 to 1989..... BUT! That sure as hell would be a gem to witness in a time machine.... WORD! MR.BILL
