The version of Napoles that finally captured the crown against Curtis Cokes against the Oscar that beat Whitaker. 12 rounds of boxing.

    Napoles should win by attrition.

I think Napoles' strong counters make Oscar tentative enough as it goes on to allow Jose to take most of the late rounds and the fairly close but unanimous verdict.

Probably a bad night for Oscar, I can't see how he could win this one, only question is does he make the distance ?

I'm not a betting man, but if I were, I would bet the house on Mantequilla.

I think this would be a very good tactical fight...I believe as the fight would go longer, Napoles' countering, and body attack would slow DLH's offensive output down (flurries)in a 15 rounder. In a 12 rounder it would get tighter. Napoles decision.

Napoles came along just before my time. I never saw him fight live. I have his fights with Cokes, Griffith, Backus, Gray, Lewis, Muniz, Stracey, Monzon ... all the fights everyone else has ... and frankly I just never saw what all the fuss was about.

Then again, if someone never saw Oscar fight live, and only watched him on tape, they'd probably say the same about him.

But I'd go with De La Hoya. I always liked him because, once you got past all the marketing, if he was in a tough fight, he tended to dig in his toes and just go for the KO. And he slugged it out with a lot of the top names.

And I also felt Oscar faced much better quality of opposition. Throw out Emile Griffith, and you're left with guys like Cokes, Hedgemon Lewis, Clyde Gray, Muniz ... ehh. Not as good as Whitaker, Trinidad, Quartey, Vargas, Mosley, Floyd, Gatti, Mayorga and on and on.

I think Oscar was just the better fighter from 147 to 154.

Head to head, I'd take Oscar, by decision (as long as it wasn't in Vegas) or a late TKO over Napoles.

You know you're on a forum of brain dead posters when you read somebody say DLH beats Napoles.

Napoles was a MUCH MUCH better fighter than the Cross Dresser.

I can't see how Napoles can lose. Stronger and a far superior technician. Oscar might have a chance if he cuts him but I just can't see that happening.

    Oh dear God.

Anyway, Napoles is Top 10 of all time in terms of H2H ability across all weights. Also, Napoles is just better than DLH, and would force DLH to fight his fight.

Have you seen the Monzon-Napoles fight? It was a rather easy night for Monzon.

Based on what? He doesn't look that good on film. de la hoya looks good on film though, and it's against better competition as well

This fantasy fight is Napoles at his prime, not the MW title shot.

For Monzon, Napoles was almost 34 years old fighting a much bigger guy Monzon, and outweighed at fight time by at least 10-12 lbs.

Monzon was too much for Napoles, as he was for numerous other good MW's.
