Better puncher, both one shot and in combination. Much smoother, and by that I mean transitionally. With Napoles it was all the same; the bell rang and he hunted down the opponent and defeated him. In my estimation, he was among the last guys that fought in such a way that there it was all one, no "offense", no "defense."

I don't believe that Leonard punched as good as Napoles, a totally subjective belief because neither Napoles nor Leonard has ever hit me. I don't believe that Leonard would win exchanges with Napoles; Jose would force exchanges but his superior ability to position himself would give him an edge.

I have a ton of respect for Leonard because he always found a way to win. But in a fight at 47, Napoles beats him. He would be Duran times two, with finesse and more pop.

This would be pretty logical given Leonard was 16 fights deep where as Napoles, tho aged and at the end of his career was still world champ and performing at a very high level.

Totally agree with your assessment. Leonard's speed is a big factor in him having a very slight advantage imo and as you say he is so adaptable and the bigger man.

Really close. I'd pick Leonard in what would be one of his most difficult, closest fights.

Fair enough. I disagree on most of that, but it's okay to disagree. It would be boring around here without that element.

I think the consensus here is that Napoles is a better boxer and I agree. but it would be hard for him to take a 15 round decision. Though I can see it happening

Leonard on points or by stoppage on cuts.

Napoles was great but Leonard was greater.

Its funny. Leonard beats Benitez who was unbeaten and was a defensive wizard.
Leonard then faces a six foot monster in Hearns and stops him.
Leonard beat the better competition at welter then Napoles did simple as that.
Napoles struggled with Lewis the first time and Lewis isnt close to Leonard.
Napoles has never faced anyone wirh rhe speed of a Leonard. Not to mention Leonard had some pop as well.
Leonard stops Napoles in under 10. Too fast hits too hard.

Ray Leonard all the way, just cause his transition or whatever between defence and attack isn't the smoothest in boxing history, it never did him too much harm over his career. His resume is also miles better.
