A truly mouth watering match up and my money would be on the Cuban RC. His propensity to bleed would be my biggest worry, especially as Duran was brilliant with his head n elbows on the inside. That being said as good as Duran is I reckon Napoles' incredibly educated, powerful and versatile left jab ( his hook off the jab is just all time good as is his jab) and his physical strength, cleverness and great chin as well as his clever and very efficient footwork would enable him to closely outpoint Roberto in what would have been a great fight. If Duran could manage to keep Jose pinned near the ropes for stretches of the fight I could see him winning but I believe Napoles would have been hip to that. I actually like watching the Monzon v Napoles fight solely to watch an elderly, undersized Napoles continually bounce left jabs off Monzon's face and for how good Napoles chin was in that fight. Cheers Mate.
Great post JC40!! Napoles could "box cool" like he did vs Griffith...and that would have been the turn of events vs Duran.
Don't know much about Napoles other than how highly rated he is, but this has stirred me up, im going to go do my research on him now. For you fellas to have him beating Duran at roughly Durans best weight has really surprised me
