Dujuan Johnson, Akio Kameda, and the Ghost of Antonio Cervantes all knocked Pryor down in round 1 due to his sloppy defense. Can't afford to make that mistake against a bigger, harder hitting fighter like Cuevas.

    Nice match up Rich.

Going with Cuevas for every pro reason already put forward.

However, I like @Kid Bacon ’s take as to how Pryor could win in all possibility - being cautious, keeping the distance and trying to win by virtue of pure boxing skills, very much against his grain - but more likely Pryor can’t fight like that for too long without trying to go punch for punch, opening the door for Cuevas to shine with his superior power.

Not coming up with a scenario where Pryor post a win over Pipino, echo all the previous outcomes and thesis, and have Pryor getting stopped mid to late of a 15 rounder, lest we forget he came up from LW around the early 70s, reason stated the champs of the day wanted no part of him, so in essence he was a much smaller man than Cuevas, that started in the womb, so yes very unlikely Aaron would be able to roll over the Mexican, like he had been to the 140lbs he faced.
    stay safe guys.

Yeah, maybe there is an alternate reality with a cautious, careful, defensive minded Pryor who could well outbox Cueva.

The problem is that in our current reality a defensive Pryor would be a walking contradiction going against the universal equilibrium, so it is just pure fantasy.

Putting Aaron Pryor in a boxing ring and saying ‘OK, fight a very careful, disciplined fight and don’t get into exchanges, pick your spots — box and don’t attack’ is like putting a raw steak in front of your starved pit bull and saying ‘don’t eat.’

    Not gonna happen.

Part of Pipino’s charm is that he does offer an inviting enough target and Pryor wouldn’t be able to resist. He’d be feeling pretty good until that scythe of a left hook hits him like an exorcist punch and turns his head 360 degrees on a swivel.

    Very elegantly put.

Einstein himself might’ve scoffed: Aaron doesn’t play dice with defense and pure boxing, Aaron always throws down.

Like the rule that the the speed of light cannot be exceeded, Pryor is not allowed to break the laws of himself or the Universe that spawned him.

My only concern is that Arron Pryor sometimes got careless in his title matches, and he cannot afford to against a heavy handed Pipino Cuevas.

Aaron Pryor by a knockout around the 7th round. He probably has to come off the floor to do it. A force of nature The Hawk was.

Pipino would stop him. I just don’t think Pryor’s chin would hold up to a prime Pipino’s bombs. Pryor is a better fighter but Pipino is much bigger and had bone crunching power. He’s become underrated for how good he was in his peak.

According to that logic though Alexis Arguello should have been able to flatten him. I agree though Pryor would probably get decked, get up and take apart Cuevas. He was just a better fighter. Too fast, too much determination.

Cuevas was a natural 147. Arguello was at his best at 130. Cuevas was a much harder puncher than Arguello.

True but you were talking about Old Cervantes and Dujun Johnson decking. Pryor. Arguello was better than those guys yet couldn't drop Aaron. Arguello could still hit above 130 as Kevin Rooney found out.
Most of the time I recall Aaron going down it was a flash knockdown. He got up fighting harder.
