Jose Pipino Cuevas vs Davey Boy Green from the 1977 Carlos Palomino fight. Green gave Carlos quite a battle before tasting Palomino's left hook in round 11 of the scheduled 15 rounder in London. Does Grren make it a battle, he was undefeated going into the Palomino fight, he even stopped former champion John H. Stracey in 10 rounds.
Short and not so sweet, Cuevas could prob KO any WW that unwisely chose to walk into range, so I dont see the fight lasting very long.
Davey Boy went down like he’s been shot by a sniper against Palomino and against Ray Leonard. Both times it was from left hooks. Pipino’s left hook was near-lethal and Green didn’t have the slickness to box Cuevas for 15 rounds and avoid that punch. Davey Boy was game and tough but this is the absolute wrong fight for him. It ends suddenly and badly. I’m saying in round two or three.
Yes I see this as a bad match up for Dave and he was hero of mine as a kid, Cuevas by KO. I really give Colin Jones a chance in a battle of the bangers though.
Jones was significantly better than Green terrific left hook his only faults seemed to be a lack of pace and limited head movement, but he could crack I saw him take out Laing twice.
