After he beat Pastrano, he said that he had ambitions to become the heavyweight champ. I think that he could have cracked the top 10 but that he'd have an up hill battle especially with guys like Liston, Ali and Patterson roaming around. What do you think?

I don't think he gets past Ernie Terrell or Zora Folley

The 3 fighters he has the best chance against are past prime Eddie Machen, shot Williams, and maybe if Archie came out of retirement.

Jose Torres was a MW who moved up to LtHvy (and slightly beyond in weight)
    41 3 1
    height 5′ 10″
    reach 74″

An interesting fight would have been a "heavyweight fight" with Jimmy Ellis, who also had come up from MW originally also.

    Jimmy Ellis
    height 6′ 1″
    reach 76″

1965-07-31 : Tom McNeeley 204 lbs lost to Jose Torres 182 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10
"Jose Torres, the world light heavyweight champion, won a unanimous 10 round decision over Tom McNeeley of Boston in a non-title bout Saturday night. McNeeley took a nine count in the 1st round and thereafter kept pushing Torres into the ropes to stay at close range. These tactics brought a continual roar of boos from the estimated crowd of 10,000 at Bithorn Stadium. At the end the ring was littered with crumpled paper cups and empty beer cans." -Associated Press

    • This bout was originally announced as a majority decision win for Torres until referee Ramon Fournier's card was examined and found to be scored 96-92 for Torres instead of the draw that was originally announced.
    • World heavyweight champ Muhammad Ali boxed four exhibition rounds on this card.

and two rounds with Cody Jones.

fYI: Torres admits the Charley Green fight was "bizarre".
