Excellent build up thread well done mate :good , really a superb read

Moreno - Darchynan , a little unlike yourself , i dont rate Vic that highly and rate Moreno a little higher than you but not much , i fancy at some point Vic will get inside and cause damage to Moreno with pressure and output , the guy is ferocious when he's allowed to come forward the whole fight , for me Moreno has to sit on his shots early and look to hurt / stop Vic in his tracks to beat him , in summary while Moreno is still horizontal i think there's a good case for him outpointing Vic , that said Vic will not sit on the end of Moreno's jab all night , it should provide some tasty moments this fight

Mares - Agbeko 2 , Mares is another man who is over rated for me , and Agbeko is somewhat of a beast , he's still young (Mares) , but unfortunatley for him he finds himself at the top end of a seriously deep and talented division , Agbeko UD 116 - 112

Compliments again on a very good thread

:yep Wasn't as good as my ''No Homo'' edit in the thread from the first fight I don't think. So good that you asked if Agbeko had actually said it.

Muchas Gracias Rasta's, thinking of making December 2-3 and New Year's Eve versions of the other threads I made, the preview of the entire weekend sort of thing. Up for it?

    5-7?!?!:yikes

That's a stretch even for me, I suppose with it being on the west coast and all it's to be expected. A win for Miguel will certainly see me through though, I'll have the adrenaline to stay a wake for the inevitable King Kong victory.

    ;)

Forgot about this thread!! Anyways my view on the fight has obviously changed a bit from how I thought the first fight would go down even though I've said quite a few times on here that i thought that first fight should be changed to a No Contest. It was a terrible, terrible refereeing display which stopped the fight from playing out as it should have. If the low blows had have been stamped out early, it's difficult to predict how the fight would have turned out.

I actually think the controversy of last time will work in Agbeko's favour in this fight. You'd expect whoever is in charge to have been warned to penalise any shot Mares gets wrong and it will disrupt him because that left hook to the body remains a big punch for him vs. Agbeko. He has to carry on using it and whilst a minority of the low blows were as a result of his head being pulled down, for the most part they were thrown from too low a base on his part. He used the shot expertly vs Perez in their fight so he can do it but he has to adjust how he throws it. It was a problem vs both Vic and Agbeko so it's not as though it was just a one time thing.

However, hopefully there will be a competent ref this time who will be on hand to prevent them from overshadowing the fight and not being an issue. If so, I think Mares needs to fight a much more disciplined fight to get the W this time. Whilst he made a fast start last time round, in my mind his tactics for the fight were all wrong. He tried to boss on the front foot and whilst he made use of his jab when coming forward slightly better than he did vs Darchinyan, it was still fundamentally under employed. After he got the 1st round KD, he seemed to bizarrely think he could get Agbeko out of there, which was never going to happen, and just abandoned the jab. His punches were far too wide and he was getting countered far too easily.

Agbeko's left hook is a fairly wide, telegraphed punch but it was connecting against Mares because he was just bull rushing in for the most part. The times when Mares had most success where when he came in behind his straighter punches- either a jab then right cross or just a right hand lead. They were having a good deal of success but then his work on the inside was poor. Agbeko was without doubt the better man in close (which I didn't think he would be before the fight) especially in the later rounds and Mares letting the fight take place there was a mistake IMO.

I said before the first fight, and I still believe it to be the case, if Mares fights vs. Agbeko on the back foot primarily and draws him in to lead off, he will win the fight IMO. King Kong caught him with that big overhand right in the 4th when Mares was trying to trade in the middle of the ring and it just went to show that that was just too risky a tactic for him. Abner is the quicker of the 2 I believe and this is of much greater benefit to him if he tries to use his speed to counterpunch.

Though it didn't happen a great deal, Agbeko showed a slight tendency to repeat his bad habit of falling in when leading off first time around but Mares didn't really capitalise on them as much as he could and should have. His combination punching is very good Mares but by coming in behind winging pucnhes, he denied himself the chance to show that. The action got messy up close and he was losing in the inside battles.

The main weapons Mares has, his straight punches and his combinations, would be made much better use of by fighting outside IMO. If he manages to remain disciplined and do this for the majority of the fight, I would make him strong favourite. But in the first fight he got his tactics very wrong I felt and if he does so again and lets Agbeko dictate the tempo, he will likely lose I feel. I'm still backing Mares as I feel he will recognise the need to improve on the last time out- he should do anyway as, a point I've made about him ever since I've started supporting him, he does not pace fights well at all. His stamina gets drained from too much inside work and he fades late on. He will have to control the tempo of the fight I feel and in doing so the range at which it's fought too.

Still, despite a lot of criticism of him  WAR MARES!!!!
