Mesi was WBC #1 contender. He would have been beaten to a pulp by Vitali so it’s good he never made it to that fight. I could see him beating Byrd or Ruiz. I think Brewster would beat him likely in later rounds. Mesi was an ok fighter.

Never heard of him or met him off the top of my head but considering he's also from Buffalo, I'm inclined to think their's a relation. Will do some further research and get back to you.

Just talked to Mikaih Krepps, a friend of mine and a fighter on the same card and she told me the guy is his nephew.

If you google it, looks like Baby Joe also has a kid named Joseph. A lot of Joe’s in that family I guess.

Just read an article about this new Mesi. Turns out it’s his cousin.

Reminds me of the tale of a football coach after an upset win over a powerhouse team after traveling to California (this was in the days of trains,so going to the West Coast was a week-long affair), where the upstart winning team scored all its points while the powerhouse team’s best player was on the bench injured before returning.

In the handshake line, the losing coach said ‘Any other day, we’d have beat you.’

Losing coach: ‘I didn’t come out here to play a damned series.’
