Bunce’s whole act is to massively overhype boxers, trainers and fights. He is a promoter pretending to be a journalist.

I have understood that as his act for a long time now. There is a place for that kind of person, in a sport which has a lot of negativity around it.

I wouldn’t personally take anything he writes or says as serious. He doesn’t believe half of what he writes and says anyway.

Chisora showed massive heart in there and deserves huge respect as a man for that. But his days as an elite boxer are over. He is clearly shot to bits now and people need to have a word in private with him. We don’t want another Danny Williams.

The fab 4 of 2010s British heavy weight boxing, Audley, Williams, sprott and Skelton would have made 100 mil between them if they came in this era lol.

Danny in fact beat iron Mike and fought vitali but still didn't get minted.

That’s why I have mixed feelings when I see the criticism of the big purses the likes of Del Boy and whyte get. Yes they’re only above average fighters in the big scheme of things but they’re getting their ****ing heads bashed in for our entertainment. You get average run of the mill footy players getting payed a fortune and not going through no we’re near what the boxers are getting payed. Look at Danny Williams, you could say it would have been a small price to pay to have Eddie overhyping him if he was financially secure.

I also get that the flip side is that average fights and fighters can only be accessed through Ppv etc which is annoying.

I don’t get where this idea that Chisora is some sort of man of the people has come from. He’s a vile, woman-beating, self-entitled scumbag.

Although I agree with your sentiment, I don't agree with "they get their heads bashed in for our entertainment".

They get their heads bashed in because 1) they are earning considerable sums of money 2) career mobility 3) status 4) in the case of Chisora, his defence is pathetic.

Also, if our entertainment was their concern, Chisora would not be a one-dimensional plodder who is as predictable as they come. Some people I know love to watch the same films over and over (and crap films at that) - I've never understood that. They must be the same types that enjoy Chisora, because he bores me to tears.

Chisora is one of the luckiest athletes in the world. The more scummy he is, the more he is beloved. He can lose repeatedly and his stock only increases. He has never beaten a top level opponent despite headlining more PPV's than some genuinely top level boxers over the years. He is also a bitter, jealous bloke. He apparently gets on well with Tyson Fury. Tyson Fury has been really nice about him for a very long time, and when asked who would win out of Joshua and Fury Chisora always replies Joshua, and without any doubt. He clearly can't stand the fact that he thought he was once better than Fury, to then get beat and for their careers to go on completely different trajectories. I look forward to the next time he's laid out.

They should be well paid and have enough to comfortably retire after hanging them up, but the exorbitant amounts they're getting per fight should be reserved for the best boxers. I don't think the money they are getting is doing boxing any favours at all.

Pretty sure we,ve had this argument before. For me chisoras deserved his money. For years hes fought the best fighters in his category in the world. Usyk, haye, fury twice, parker twice, whyte twice. Klitchko. These are all comfortably top ten heavyweights in the world. The truth is thats elite level. In terms of out of the whole population of the world these guys have been the top ten in their category.

Think of how many people are in the world. Literally billions. These are the top ten of the whole world. Thats pretty much elite even though we,ve upgraded elite level over the years. If you we,re to say to a kid starting out in boxing....stick in at it....if you do and dedicate yourself for twenty years....get your head punched in against the best fighters in the world...take horrendous amounts of damage in sparring....possibly end up punch drunk in your thirties. Possibly end up dead or critically injured on the way. And if you become succesful beating british level and european level and be pretty competetive against the best in the world while getting your head caved in you might just have enough to retire on off the back off it...it would be the worst career advice ever. Anyone with any brains would stay away from boxing. Its a hard sport....chisoras a good fighter. He came up short against the very best....but he took them all on maximising his career earnings. Thats how it should be tho. Deserved his money for my money. Put in ridiculous amounts of effort over the last four or five years....fought anyone who wanted it and gave them pretty good fights. Hear about how usyks the best we,ve seen....usyks brilliant i get it....but chisora made him look pretty ordinary that night. Pretty ridiculous that chisoras viewed as a useless plodder and then posts go up about how usyk would be too much for muhammad ali.

The PPV model works like this:

1 starve the fans of any decent boxing on free TV.
2 starve the fans of any decent boxing on the normal programming of sports subscription channels.
3 Hype up anyone good or any average trash talking thug.
4 Hire dishonest pundits to constantly hype and shill.
    5 Count the loot.

A gatekeeper to the very best the world has to offer is actually a massively succesful career in reality. People need to realise how hard that actually is to achieve and how many fail along the way to achieving the same thing to put it into context.

To me theres a real lack of respect nowadays....we,re almost like casuals. If your not number one in the world...your a pudding. I know we all spout nonsense on here its half the fun...but its stupid really. Its not really reality. The reality is you had to be among the worlds best to beat chisora....even then it was rarely an easy night. He fought at an elite level in terms of fighting ten guys who we,re amongst the ten best fighters in the world....some of them the very best in the world.

Fought 3 elite fighters in his career and barely landed any leather in any of the fights with any of them.

British level fighter along with Whyte and in decent fights at their level - once he stepped up it was plod, plod, plod, overhead right missing by a mile, plod, plod ...... then on to next fight after claiming a robbery on the cards.

Anyone earning the millions of loot he has should really be an elite level fighter and rightly given stick should he just plod his way to numerous defeats.
