The news articles I've seen have called this fight the richest fight in NZ history. While that sounds great the previous record was Tua/Cameron where both got $500,000 each. The news articles are expecting the combined purse to be over $1 million NZD which is only $667,000 USD or £474,000 GBP. While I do believe Parker/Takam could do 100K PPV buys beating Tua/Camerons numbers of 88K PPV buys and this would make Parker a huge draw in New Zealand, on a global scale he's still not a draw. Duco Events have done a good job with Parker locally but they really need to expand his appeal to a world wide scale. He'll always be a big fish in a little pond otherwise. Tua became a star and a draw when he went overseas to fight in the US, I don't see why Parker couldn't do the same.
Agreed with this. I hope they do something about it soon, it's getting annoying. I feel like they're dooming him to be a relative unknown as the point the iron was getting hot is almost passing by now I think. Joshua is a good example of a marketing success - a year or two ago both were similarly relatively unknown, I've been following both and seen AJ turn into a huge sensation while having less fights and before Dillian Whyte no real scalps to write home about. I guess he has a lot more money on his side, but still. I hope Parker does a good job with this opportunity against Takam, and afterwards Duco sort themselves out and capitalize on the showreel and bragging rights from winning that fight if they do. It would be a good time to start shouting and getting the circus on the road.
