Fair enough mate lol. What do you think his prospects are now? Oh some guy you weren't a fan of won silver too
What are prospects but the future within a division? Everyone has to step up, and everyone knows that these two have proved themselves within their first 14-17 fights. Proved that they now need to have some of the top 20 fighters to say 'yes" to their offers.
Sky tv in nz was so sure he would win his 1st fight they only televised qfs on so i didnt even see it lol. Ah well tough luck, he hasn't fought at that level before really, the step up was a bit harder than expected. I might watch a replay if i can find it one day. He needs to try to get more experience against these guys if he wants to improve. He seems to have the work ethic to improve anyway. Joe Ward is a talent lol, not too surprising i suppose.
He didn't do too bad actually against the uzbek but still has a lot of learning to do. I'm not sure he will make the olympics tbh but it could happen. Ya ward now has two world medals and two euro golds and qualified for the olympics so his going in the right direction
Prospects are just guys with potential but are not a proven quantity. There are no guarentees that they will succeed. So that is not a fact.
Parker is clearly a blue chip HW prospect, very talented... At the moment the only credible blue chipper along with Joshua, and maybe Hughie Fury. Anyone who thinks otherwise DKSAB. Usually spiteful British fans who hate on, or should I say are afraid of Parker.
Seeing as I worked this for another thread, I figured I may as well put it here too as it seems relevant and may put some fight results etc into perspective. I had a look at http://premierboxingorganisation.com/heavyweight-200 (which I at this stage prefer for independent rankings over Boxrec) which lists the last 20 opponent's ratings at the time of the fights, or "W" for someone outside of the top 100... so decided to compare the "W" versus top 100 ratios of the most recent fights for some guys, makes some interesting reading in order of least to most: Wladimir Klitschko = 0% Alexander Povetkin = 20% Tyson Fury = 50% Joseph Parker = 59% Deontay Wilder = 60% Anthony Joshua = 79% Dillian Whyte = 88% Hughie Fury = 88% Or even the amount of top 100s in the last 5 fights: Klitschko = 5 Povetkin = 5 Fury = 4 Parker = 4 Wilder = 4 Joshua = 2 Whyte = 2 Hughie = 2 The one of 100 ranked guy Parker fought in the last 5 was actually his last fight, he is only just out of the top 100 and looked WAY out of his depth - didn't land a clean hit or get past the first round.
Very interesting reading, especially In terms of what Parker did for those last 5 fights he had. They ALL ended in TKO or KO, and totaled 11 rounds in 5 fights withing 12 months. Keep busy, rising up rankings setting himself up for his next step. Exciting times for the NZ boxing public, and the hype is that it's been a long time between drinks since we have had a world class fighter to follow...
Now what happens if Anthony Joshua loses to Whyte? -Don't laugh. Watch the fight between Joshua and Whyte in the amateurs and you will see this really could happen. This weekend will tell all.
British fans seem to be a bit worried about Parker.......with good reason. He'll school your boys......any of them.
What I wonder when these comments are made is... What level should be start being tested at? I wouldn't have called Kali Meehan a journeyman and Parker walked through him. Will there be a point where he steps up and it goes from opponents being too easy to "oh he struggled / looked bad against xxxx in that win"? Some of the recent guys arent MILES away from the pointy end of the field and he has cut through them like hot butter, so are there any guys that come to mind as who should count as a valid "test" but be beatable now?
45 yo Kali Meehan is a journeyman (or at least journeyman level). Meehan is no contender these days that's for sure and I don't think he's good enough to be considered a gatekeeper. If he beats someone of the calibre of a Mailk Scott or Derek Chisora then we can talk. That's if you are talking about becoming a contender, Parker has to beat that level of fighter to go beyond prospect level. AJ beating Whyte would get him their imo especially a dominant win, these guys are both top tier prospects. A dominant win over another great prospect proves you are ready for the next level.
