You do understand that what they are doing with Joe is no different than what has been with the top boxers for generations? Building a record against a variety of fighters is the best way to get the fighter experience, especially at the crucial age Parker is at. He is still learning a lot of his craft. He is open to saying that. No one has said he is great right now, he is a prospect with some great attributes that the HW division is missing. People are excited by him. If you go back 4 years to when he was fighting in his late amateur career, he has developed as a fighter leaps and bounds. Why the Kiwi's pay $40 odd nzd for his fights, I have no idea? I refuse to buy them unless there is a card stacked with local talent. Saying things like "hes not tall enough" shows your lack of knowledge for the sport. Parker is plenty tall enough to hang with the likes of Klit, Fury and AJ. Ability wise, Parker has nothing stopping him becoming as great as he wishes to be.
It was the likes of Tua that was not tall enough. Sadly. Parker is 6'4" - and with his speed and skill he easily hangs with the big guys. Over that height a lot of them seem to become gawky and awkward. Parker is a fluid, aggressive fighter with good accuracy. We will see what he is made of in 2016. -Kiwi
If anyone watched the fight with Daniel Martz... granted he's no Tyson Fury technically but he's taller than Klitschko/Joshua and you can see he's got the edge over Parker height and reach wise but it didn't look like Parker was in with some giant by any stretch. Parker's main sparring partner is a weapon and has one of the bigger reaches in boxing (Izu Ugonah) so Parker has definitely had some decent practice coping with those attributes.
I do know people pad their record, but come on, the guy has blown away his last competitors. AJ has the same problem, but they put him in with Kevin Johnson (a guy who has never been stopped before) and we all know what happened there. I think you have just contradicted yourself there talking about David Tua and it may be you who does not have knowledge of the sport. In recent years the heavyweight division is a division of very tall men. Back when Tua was fighting he was small in comparison to the big men and so is Parker compared to the likes of wilder, fury and to a degree Klit. You talk about speed and power of Parker, look what that did for klit a guy who has barely lost a round in 10 years (who is very quick and has tremendous power) who is 6ft 6 against Fury, the guy could not touch him. Why would you think Parker would do anything different. Sadly things have changed in this division, the big men will rule from now on.
Exactly, you can't gauge how Parker would deal with a big technical beast like fury. The Martz guy was a big stiff idiot who couldn't use the physical advantages he had.
Parker and Klit are very different fighters overall. You don't know until you know. PLENTY of good fightrts have smashed other good fighters who are 3/4 inches taller than themselves... watch virtually any fight Tua/Tyson were in. Lennox Lewis didn't just have height on his side, he was an ATG as well as being 5 inches taller than Tua - Parker imho has surpassed Tua's ability now, + 5 inches in height and getting into similar power levels. Same thing, with the fight I saw between Klitschko and Tyson Fury the height wasn't the defining thing... it helped, but he could have been the same height or an inch taller and I think the outcome would have been similar. Tyson put on a very good demonstration there. Writing people off just because of a feature which has not shown to be a problem is pretty silly until you actually see legitimate reason for it - all fighters have different strengths and weaknesses, which is why we watch and don't know the outcome before hand. I'm not saying JP is going to be the champ (or otherwise) but anyone counting him out with no concrete reason why while he's still improving quickly is a bit silly. Let's just watch and see, eh?
Parker overrated??? Nah! Both he and Joshua will be some of the mayor players within the next 2 years. The talent and potential is there. Both Parker and Joshua have fought decent opposition for young heavies on their way up to the golden throne of glory and fame.No need to rush them into big fights. Both will be ready very soon.
