I don't think anyone thinks he is a bum. His weakness is also his strength. He's wild.

History would say the better boxer would avail if they fought (AJ) but i think Wilder has the style, and obviously power, to make it his fight.

Can't wait for that one to happen

    HW
    1. Joshua
    2. Parker
    3. Wilder
    * if you rank Povetkin, probably no lower than 2 and certainly no lower than 4

Resume, H2H, ranking, everything... as of the current moment.

Mmm, you're going to have a hard time living that statement down, Rob. Even if the trolls don't remember, you will.

Could be his undoing against anyone half decent who can punch.

AJ has those tendencies. He'll go toe to toe with the wrong style sooner or later, and get KO'd.

Parker couldn't even beat Takam convincingly, and deserved the L against Ruiz Jr.

    Joshua and Wilder annihilate him.

How can anyone with a straight face say, that a healthy, 28 years old boxer in HW division has already peaked, because in one(!) fight he seemed slower? That is so irrational and just plain stupid.

Im struggling to see Parker beating either of the other 2 champions, i think he is the weakest of the 3. I do like Parker so im not looking to **** on him here but i see both Joshua and Wilder rolling right over him, and Tyson Fury and Povetkin.

He was being out boxed by the very ordinary Washington, Szplika was very competitive too and winning rounds despite being dwarfed. Maybe Wilder hit's hard enough to take Parker out like he did with Washington and Szpilka, but if he can't stop Parker I think he's in for a very difficult fight.

Wilder in both those fights was made to box defensively and looked bad doing so. If Parker can consistently force him back I can see Parker winning rounds as on the back foot Wilder is less effective.

Very true. Im trying to think how to come back to that but i will just put that down to being a very good reply. I certainly agree Parker could outbox Wilder although sometimes Wilder doesnt seem to of noticed he is getting outboxed thus making him hard to discourage. Its a damn good point Brighton. Im trying to picture it in my head and all i can say i can see it that Parker looks a bit pedestrian in the ring where as Wilder is quick and i just see Parker covering up and riding out the assaults rather than him beating Wilder to the jab and countering.

Its hard when there is still so many unanswered questions about either of them.

This. The idea that unless a fighter puts in a 5 star performance every time there is a problem is ridiculous.

He's not going to get faster.
One of his main strengths was his hand speed, which was unusually fast for his size/bulk.
28 is a normal age for such a fighter to start slowing down.
Show me a fighter Joshua's size who got faster at age 29 or in his 30s.
He may well get his speed back for 3 or 4 more years IF he loses 5 to 10 pounds but I'm not counting on that. I think it's more likely he'll continue to get a bit bigger.

I'm not saying he's definitely never going to be a better fighter. Adding experience will continue to help him. But I doubt he's ever going to be as athletically efficient. Physically he's not going to improve.
And technically he doesn't seem to be directed towards any particularly improvements.

Who said there was a problem ?
I said he's probably peaked with the Klitschko fight.
That means, don't expect him to get much better than that. I'm not saying he's on a decline.

His performance against Takam was as good as any he's ever had, in my opinion. I didn't think it was a problem. He's getting bigger and slower but he's gaining experience. Takam's a good fighter and Joshua beat him very clearly. Slowing down is just something that happens to big fighters.
    Slowing down happens to everyone.

Your right he's hard to discourage which is why he was able to come back vs Washington and Szplika, he didn't panic and was able to adjust and fight his fight. If you watch those fights it's when Wilder decides to stop moving and being so defensive and stand his ground and open up that the fight shifts his way. His poor footwork means moving loads often has him off balance and out of position making him less effective. Once he set his feet to punch and held his ground he becomes a far more dangerous fighter.

Parker is pedestrian as you say, he's very predictable with his attacks, his flick jab is a huge tell he almost every time flicks it out before letting a combination go, it's like an ingrained pattern for him which he needs to break. But I don't think he will win by out boxing Wilder or out jabbing Wilder, he just needs to keep plowing forward and pressuring and keeping Wilder off balance where he can't set to throw one of those huge right hands.

But Wilder will of course be dangerous. As you say he won't be discouraged, Wilder will be more dangerous as the fight goes on and he's more likely to be more adventurous if pushed in a tough fight. Once he decides to set his feet it will be a different fight and that's when Parker will need a good chin to ride out the storm.

Wilder can win, if he can make it his style of fight and force Parker to hesitate or stay at range allowing him to take control of the centre of the ring. Whoever can stick to their strategy will win.

Most heavyweights have prime in their 30's. His speed still is good, it's obvious that AJ will look slower against small and pretty fast Takam, than against 41-year old Klitschko. Big fighters always look worse against small, quick balancing fighters, it's just difficult to land clear on them.
I mean your statement is a total abstraction. You could be right, but if AJ will properly train, then he will probably get better. Just look at careers of recent big fighters like Lennox or Wlad.

I don't think he's ever been particularly fast to be honest. Plenty of fighters with faster hands. His accuracy, judgement of distance and technique make him look faster than he is. When Joshua finally got in the ring with Wlad it was clear Wlad had much faster hands, but Joshua out boxed him in the early rounds despite being slower. It's that accuracy and also variation that allowed him to win those early rounds.

I agree about him not being as athletically efficient he's already too big as a boxer but plenty of fighters peak after their physical prime as they improve their skills and boxing intelligence. Wlad is an example of that, in his physical prime he fought like an idiot but he got better in his 30's as he developed a style that worked best for him.

There's plenty of things Joshua can improve over time. His jab is a little one dimensional, despite the power behind it and the accuracy he has with it, it's mainly at offensive weapon to set up follow up shots, he's not learned to utilise it in other ways, such as to use it to disrupt a fighters rhythm or to create space or as a feinted shot to move a fighter into a defensive position where he can then move in to cut off the ring and find a better angle and position to attack.

He needs to learn to move better. He is too static at the moment and doesn't move laterally enough defensively or offensively. That's something he mentioned before and after the Wlad fight, so it's clearly something they are working on.

Parker has more of a chance to beat Joshua because Joshua lacks a right hand, a jab and any kind of ring movement. Joshua can't really fight inside at all either. He's just too stiff.

Parker can dance a bit and he has decent hand speed, he can fight inside, he jabs...and the jab and movement combined will off set Joshua who takes baby steps to get inside which is usually off balance which shows how terrible his inside fighting style is.

Whyte landed a clean left hook and a hard body shot that had him shook up. Takam was landing some decent punches and his jab. I was surprised at how easy he was able to hit Joshua. Joshua to his credit did try to step inside on Takam...only he couldn't really land outside of the punches that Joshua did land to cut Takam.

It's just a styles fight to me and Parker does not fight well enough to get inside on Wilder and would be set up by the jab and perfect right hand from Wilder. Or he would get jabbed all night.
