While I would prefer Parker to go the IBF route and face Joshua as that's a better fight, in terms of what's best for Parker, it would make more sense for him to go the WBO route and then look to unify either with Wilder or Joshua in mega fights. It would also give Parker more time to iron out his flaws before facing either of the other title holders.

 

That's kind of right though "ducking" doesn't necessarily really count when you are the one moving up and you choose a slightly lower target to shoot for when moving up. Joshua/Parker is like a 65/35 fight while Parker would be the favorite against Ruiz.

AJ went for Charles Martin instead of Wilder for a title, same thing applies - if there is a more sensible upward path while still developing then it does make sense... if Parker and Joshua get more time to develop the hype for their fight as well as their skills then it means that the fight only becomes more interesting for when it does happen.

Because Parker has been developed "properly" towards a title position (ie, mandatory in multiple alphabets) he now has multiple options so good times ahead. 2017 should be a good year!

Although I would love to see the two young guns put their 0 on the line, I don't think its a viable route for Parker at this stage.
It would be a great fight and i'm sure it would be competitive for however long it lasts. However, if Parkers longevity and career is considered first I think the WBO route is a much better idea. There is still a lot of work to be done to his defense going backwards in particular...something he can expect to require against a bigger fighter like Joshua.

Parker isn't ducking and his team is smart, putting him in the right position to give him the best chance of success. I cannot argue against it.

 

Parker has potential, let's see him get past Ruiz first..............

 

Did not Parker's team accept to fight A, as part of the mandatory match with Takam? Did they not tell the whole world how Parker will beat AJ? And then quietly run away from the fight... That's a duck and a blatant one to boot.

 

We're hearing Ruiz will fight Parker in Auckland, New Zealand on December 27th. Obviously for the WBO title.

 

Quietly running away? Wlad was targeted by Hearn as soon as there was sniff of a chance to line him up. Parker still will be mandatory but the key point which you obviously don't grasp is...he has a chance of a belt now. This will give him a bigger slice of the pie when they meet later.

Eddie Hearn wanted both Parker and AJ to take one more fight first to build it up, so AJ is fighting Klitschko and Parker is fighting Ruiz ...

It's a good solution all round, we get 2 high quality fights this year and the winners face off next year.

Exactly, too much bull from idiots on both sides saying Joshua is ducking Parker by fighting Wlad and Parker is ducking Joshua by going for Ruiz and the WBO belt.

Anyone impartial can clearly see both are willing to fight the other and were working towards that goal and building the fight but the division has gone through a huge upheaval recently with Fury's issues and the landscape has changed and both are taking advantage of this.

Joshua is getting a career defining fight for likely crazy money against an opponent that brings the most prestige possible and likely making him the number 1 ranked active heavy overnight. While Parker gets a shot at a title, which will eventually help build a unification fight with Joshua and gives Parker more time to iron out the flaws we saw against Takam.

This only makes the eventual show down between these 2 even more mouthwatering. Both will be more experienced and better fighters and both will have titles, in fact between the 2 of them all the major belts bar one.
