Joseph Parker will meet Brian Minto – the man who finished Shane Cameron’s career – in Auckland on July 5.

Minto is ranked 12 by the WBO and stands at 33 in the independent world boxing rankings.

The 39-year-old, who has been in with the likes of title contenders Tony Tubbs, Chris Arreola and Axel Shulz, stopped Shane Cameron in a brutal contest in December to claim the WBO Oriental belt.

“He ended Shane’s career, no doubt about it,” said Parker’s trainer Kevin Barry.

Having trained Minto for three weeks heading into the Cameron fight and then manned his corner, Barry had an inside view of Minto’s demolition job on Cameron.

“This is a fight we don’t have to sell,” Barry said. “The New Zealand public saw Minto demolish Shane Cameron. He didn’t get lucky. He was ahead on every card and won every round.”

Parker will defend his WBA Interim Pan Asian Boxing Association title while Minto’s WBO Oriental Title will also be up for grabs.
The fight will be held in Auckland at a venue yet to be confirmed.

Excellent, given PABA has been in induced coma since end of October. Maybe it's time life support was switched off...before more promoters are conned?

stupid fight for parker... parker has to box well for 12 rounds otherwise hell be stopped. Minto aint the best, but he will apply plenty of pressure and is 5 times the fighter of the brazilian he fought on the weekend. Why are they rushing parker so quickly? yes he has some good skills but he is by no means a wrecking ball, he needs time to figure out his game and what is best for him in the pro's

Are they really both Kevin Barry fighters? Barry trained Minto for 3 weeks prior to the Cameron bout and was then in his corner for the fight. That was about 6 months ago.

Doesn't look like a good opponent choice for Parker. Looks like they are keen, perhaps over keen, to push him along.

Minto is past prime since years. A good prospect should beat him by KO.

Parker has loads of potential, but is still very rough around the edges and needs to be built up properly. He looked pretty vulnerable the other night...

Minto might be 39, but he's a dangerous opponent. Still good enough in December to destroy Shane Cameron.

Minto has only been stopped 3 times in his long career and each time by very good opponents. Cameron can attest to his power.

Bringing this back from the dead. I was talking to Joseph not long ago and hes very very excited about this fight.

After reviewing some of Minto's fights (Sprott fight in particular), he does have some power. As everyone saw from the Cameron fight, he is a dog of a fighter that loves to throw elbows/headbutts. Joe is going to have to box smart in this one & keep to the outside. Nascimento had him stunned in his last fight & from what i saw his power was not as great as Minto's.

    Should be a good fight!
