If you're looking after Parker, you should be looking at a series of fights to rebuild him. A domestic match-up with Junior Fa is a no-brainer. As is a trans-Tasman contest against Lucas Browne. What's bizarre is that you have Kiwis on this thread expressing their disdain for it. The same guys are over on the Adam Kownacki v Charles Martin thread expressing interest in the outcome of that one. Parker v Junior Fa is just as good.
There's a lot of Kiwi boxing fans with a real cultural cringe towards their own fighters. As a non-Kiwi, I find it bizarre. For a very small country, they've done exceptionally well to produce a world class heavy in Joseph Parker (who is in need of some fights like this to get him back on a winning trajectory) and they have another very talented guy in Junior Fa behind him (who is currently the NZ heavyweight champ). Why they wouldn't want to see him get his moment in the spotlight is beyond me (even if it's only a domestic spotlight). The end result of some meaningful domestic match-ups will be a fighter worthy of a bigger fight on the international stage. Meanwhile, a lot of people will collect decent pay cheques along the way. That seems to me to be a good outcome for NZ boxing.
ALL I can say is that George Groves seemed to be continually having to rebuild his career after big losses and whilst it’s hard to watch in his case it finally paid off. Re Parker I still believe he’s got talent, needs a new coach and needs to find his mojo again instead of playing it safe, wins against lesser comp could sort him out.
FFS Parker won both of those fights and was robbed, Groves got KTFO twice Pathetic comparison really In many ways Fa is just a bigger version of Parker with even less mongrel. Fa has slick skills, tremendous foot work. He is a big lump of a bloke alright. Fa can punch but he likes to fight on the back foot too much and he gets easily crowded when being pressured. If Fa realized how much of a big bad man he actually is and fought like it then he would be the next big thing. I think Fa is a diamond in the rough, but will ultimately be wasted potential. I expect Parker to win, but Fa will have some good moments.
This. Parker needs to get serious and get a real coach if he wants to be a force in the division. He has a good chin and good hand speed, but his footwork, defense, and punching all need to be corrected.
Makes no difference wether you’re knocked out or beat on points you can’t be expected to keep on taking fights against the best and take more losses and in any case who and what got you triggered?you should try Valium or Xanax if only to give the rest of us some peace.
The buzz for Parker v Fa is already building. The world needs to know who the best Kiwi big man on the planet really is. Is it some guy they shook out of a coconut tree in Tonga or is it, as we've been led to believe by the Duco promotional outfit, the fearsome Samoan based out of Las Vegas? Cultural-cringe Kiwis are aghast at the prospect of this fight happening, let alone that it could be considered a big deal. They are as agitated by that prospect as what Joshua fans are at the mention of the word "lineal".
You're joking right? Fa's footwork is terrible! It's like he's stuck in the mud at times. His main weapon is his jab and that isn't even that decent. The reason why I talk Fa down is because he's looked awful as a pro and his level of opposition has been awful as well, that's why I don't want to see him in with Parker yet. I want him to do well as I like seeing Kiwis make it in the pro ranks and he comes across as a great guy but Fa has a long, long way to go and is nowhere near ready for someone like Parker. He's also got a few health problems at the moment which was discovered after the Pascual fight according to his manager on another forum so it's unlikely that he'll fight Parker next anyway.
Parker needs to slap a few heads around in NZ & Aust & then head back over there when he's got some form on the board. That's assuming he's good enough. Fa has already beaten him twice in the amateurs. Give them both a decent tune-up & then let's get it on.
He has tremendous foot work, better than the big stiff robot that's for sure. He has better foot work than all but the Fury's in the heavyweight division and he only lags behind them because he is nigh on obese. Guy needs to lose some weight and you will see his real athleticism. He beat Parker numerous times in the Amateurs when he was light on his feet.
