Just over a week until Joseph Parker fights his physically biggest and most proven opponent in his career in Kali Meehan who stands at 6ft 5 and is currently rated 28th on Boxrec. While he's probably past his best he has been in some big fights and put a good case forward in a WBO title fight 10 years ago and his last fight was last year which he won convincingly and resulted in his opponent Shane Cameron (one of NZ's other more successful boxers) retiring, so he's hardly harmless and could arguably be one of the most credible fighters put in front of the Deontay Wilder/Anthony Joshua/Joseph Parker "future of the HW division" team. Kali Meehan has started talking his preparation up, saying his 6ft 5 / 260+lb sparring partner (and son) is a harder hitter and harder to hit opponent than Parker and rates himself to have what it takes to beat him - could be an interesting fight, arguably the kind of thing which should show how much of a force Parker really is. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-...hits-harder-than-NZ-boxing-hope-Joseph-Parker
I get this fight for Parker, but I really don't for Meehan. It clearly seems like he has given up on a rematch against Chagaev for his minor WBA strap, otherwise he wouldn't have done this.
This fight is tomorrow, very much looking forward to it http://www.foxsports.com.au/more-sp...ct-joseph-parker/story-e6frf5h3-1227567923305 https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-ne...ew-out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new/47961 Should be interesting watching - if Parker can substantially outclass Meehan like the betting odds are suggesting then imho he becomes the more proven prospect out of himself and Anthony Joshua, and I'm hoping he starts getting more of the attention he deserves. Anyone else going to be watching this one?
