Joseph Parker VS Kali Meehan - Who wins?

Parker is definitely starting to build a similar trend in terms of his KO potential, but there was just something about Tua that made it ultra exciting. It was just savage, though I guess with Parker it often looks like he hasn't even really tapped into the reserves and he's turning off lights left right and centre - it just makes it look less dramatic.

 

Yeah powerwise sure David had it over Joe but he does over most. In terms of speed, technique, work ethic etc though he comes a distant 2nd. That is why Parker will end up vastly superior to Tua when it is all said and done.

Good, and semi-risky fight for Parker. I like it! Parker by KO, but he needs to box carefully here. Meehan is no pushover, even at his age!

 

Why is Meehan seen as any threat to JP? He's C class journeyman, a few good wins but some bad losses also, overall a safe enough move for JP.

 

That's like people saying Joshua will be vastly superior to Bruno. It's possible but statistically highly unlikely. Both would have to become fairly dominant champs for that to happen, Tua and Bruno were very top contenders.

And there's only room for one! If one becomes a dominant champ, my money would be on Joshua, but more likely that neither do. So, Bruno and Tua level is actually setting the standard quite high.

 

C class journeyman? Meehan has always been a HW contender, even today he's most definitely a solid fringe contender floating.around the top 30. FACt most had him beating BREWSTER, so he should have been a world titlist. MEEHAN is no journeyman. Parker ought to win but it would be a mistake to underestimate Kali.

 

I'm still pondering on this but I can't help but feel Meehan may be the most serious opposition either Parker or Joshua have fought so far, and potentially the most serious to be confirmed for either so far too.

 

Meehan fought for the title (and lost) 11 years ago. He is nearly 46. Parker is 23. Danny Williams and Hasim Rahman knocked out Meehan in a round or so before Parker even reached his teens.

This is an awful mismatch. Everyone knows it.

So what if Meehan beat Shane Cameron. Who didn't? Danny Green beat Cameron, too. (Parker-Green will no doubt be coming up in 2016.)

I wouldn't pick a 46-year-old Joseph Parker to beat a 23-year-old Joseph Parker. Why would I pick a 46-year-old Kali Meehan to beat him?

over thinking here a bit man, I'm not disagreeing that this is an easy win for Parker on paper... But Meehan is better than you think, and it would be a mistake for Parker to underestimate him. Meehan was robbed by Brewster FYI : good . this is a good swansong fight for Meehan(would havepreferred Tua but this is still good.... would be nice if Parker went some rounds here and used his jab a little more than he usually does

 

Meehan-Brewster was 11 YEARS ago. And Meehan and Brewster didn't go all out because they were regular sparring partners way back then.

Rahman WASN'T a sparring partner with Meehan and blew him out in one-sided fashion a few months after the Brewster fight.

Parker's fighting a guy twice his age who wasn't good enough a GENERATION ago. He can underestimate Meehan all he wants. Parker isn't losing a minute of the fight to that guy.

Parker is a talented prospect. I liked how he came to the U.S. and while he was here he hung out with and sought advice from Larry Holmes (who told him he needed to work on his jab day and night).

I just hate to see this start. First it's Meehan, who he'll beat in a round. Then it'll be Danny Green, another 40+ guy who is coming back. Then it'll be Tua, another 40+ guy who by that time will be as round as he is tall.

And by the time he's ready to fight for the world title, he'll have been fed so many ancient names who "never quite made it the world scene" that he'll have quit progressing.

It's better to not even start down that road. Come to the U.S. and fight Gerald Washington, an undefeated prospect. Go to England and fight Dillian Whyte. Beat some guys from your era who are also trying to climb the ladder. If you want to fight an older guy ... fight someone who was recently a titleholder. Fight Stiverne. Fight Ortiz.

Parker isn't going to learn anything blowing out a 46-year-old never-was Meehan in a few seconds. It's just a payday for the local promoters. Once he does, those local guys with have another faded name for him.

Fight your way up the ratings. He appears to have the talent to be able to do it.

Not sure where you get the idea that Kali is on that much of a level above Parker given we don't even know what Parker can withstand.

87% of Parker's fights have ended by him winning by KO, compared to 68% of Meehan's fights ending the same way - Meehan has been KO'd 3 times versus Parker never loosing a fight, without even going into other factors you can see just by comparing their abilities demonstrated in their respective last 3 fights.

Anyone saying this fight is going to only go three rounds is selling both of them short, though saying Meehan is going to KO Parker in 3 could only be explained by bias over logic.

I really hope it's a good fight and expecting/hoping for a good and well earned win by Joseph Parker but at the same time I'll feel a bit bad for Kali Meehan if that turns out, I feel like I'd like for him to end on a high note - he comes across as a really good dude and I vaguely recall him mentioning at one point he didn't really feel like he'd enjoy fighting David Tua when he was on his downturn as he'd feel bad about being part of an amazing career having a less than glamorous ending.

Some of the noises he's made make it seem like he may retire if he loses and it'd be a bit of a shame for his career to become a martyr for Parker's one, though obviously a big win there WOULD (/ will) be very good for Parker.

I'd like to see this go the distance, and think it's entirely plausible but I'm going to go with a Parker win TKO7.
