I think Marciano is over rated but I think you're right. Unless Parker can KO him early I think Marciano will grind him down. He struggled with the pace and pressure Takam set and Marciano is on another level in this regard, if he can take him into the 2nd half of the fight then I think Parker gasses badly and is broken down and stopped. Parker really needs to prove a lot more before he can really be compared to any ATG.
Marcianos story has already been told, Parkers has just begun... Looks like a real talent but let's wait until the kid actually wins a title and defends it a couple of times before talking about he stands H2H against the greats.
Marciano weighed 185 goddamn pounds and he never fought a fast handed, skilled power punching SHW in his entire career. He's the one who never proved himself in this match up.
185 pounds?? No chance against ANY Top Ten HW guy today. Comparing one era to another is worthless. Leave it alone.
Some will say Marciano was too small pointing out he was only 185lbs, but Holyfield and Haye were both once only 190lbs. Adamek was only 175lbs and despite not having power at heavyweight still garnered some decent wins over much bigger men. Is it so crazy that Marciano could beat a relatively unproven heavyweight like Parker?
Marciano could thow in 2 rounds what Parker struggles to throw over 12 rounds. His work rateand stamina is horrible. Rocky would be all over him. No contest
185 pounds vs a whole Top 10 full of 6'4"-plus, 240lb monsters - most of them with speed, power, reach, height advantages multiplied. There is no comparison. Frankly, even Ali might struggle against today's best. Just sheer size, speed and power.
Both Haye and Holyfield are over 6 foot and have relatively long frames which could support extra mass. They grew into their HW bodies as their careers progressed. Marciano was a dumpy little midget with trex arms who topped out at around 185.
True but what about other smaller fighters that have moved up and had success? Adamek is only 6'1" as was Byrd, Toney is 5'10" at the most and they all had success at heavyweight to a certain degree. RJJ also moved up despite his size and beat Ruiz, has Parker proved himself to be better than Ruiz with one win over Takam? I don't think so. While I think size can definitely be a factor Parker simply hasn't proven himself consistently enough to be favoured at this moment in time. What if Ruiz Jr blasts him out in his next fight? I am a Parker fan but one win over a decent opponent in Takam doesn't mean he's proven himself especially when he showed vulnerabilities in that fight to attributes Marciano possesses in spades.
Does Parker do worse against Makabu than Takam? Makabu has a substantially better workrate. I don't know. Just a question to ponder, since no one seems to be taking into account the relative size of the opponents.
