I want beterbiev vs smith next. Smith could very well beat him. That would be good so canelo doenst get the praise beating an aging fighter in beterbiev cause thats what he is. No way beterbiev takes that power

Agreed, but just as bad is the fact that they didn't change this to a non-title fight. There is no reason for Geffrard to have the honor of fighting for a world title.

To be fair they said they asked 12 higher ranked challengers but they all declined. I get why, short time and short money, but can't blame Smith for keeping his tv slot and purse.

And that fella this Beterbiev you speak of is no defensive wizard either so it would be an entertaining fight for sure but Bivol has already boxed Smiths ears off and IMO Bivol is the best at 175

he couldnt throw the straight hand more. He needed to mix uppers, hooks and straigts to create openings. He did very well, even if his best punch is the straight hand, he needs to sacrifice it sometimes to create openings.

I think he should have used more the jab to the body to create openings, very cheap punch energy wise and extremerly effective to create openings upstairs. He decided to hook the body instead, even if the punches were blocked. That's more expensive, but hell, who cares with that gas tank? right?

another good technique that he didnt use and that is not used very often, but that is EXTREMELY effective is to use your jab and pull down your oponent's guard with your hand instead of taking your left hand back, and then to throw the right hand.

That's fair I just think he has to choose wisely, lol.

With Bivol he has the confidence of knowing he went 8 rounds with a broken jaw. If that's something you can be confident in, lol. Either way, hopefully they are closer to unifying, like you said.

However if Canelo calls Smith Jr I'm afraid people will talk like he's avoiding the other two Champs when in reality he will make 5 to 10 x more fighting Canelo.

Legitimate observation he had the skills but no credentials for even a top 10

As long as Smith is standing he has a chance to win a fight he has some serious power in his shots he isnt as polished and lacks the years of mastering distance and timing in the ring but he hits IMO with more KO power in a single shot where Beterbiev has more balance and tendon strength.....yes I said it Smith has some serious thud in his hard hands and physical strength but Beterbiev might seem stronger in the ring. Thats the fight

I agree with you on Canelo its a scenario that no matter what direction he goes he will get the same accusation because Smith is the least technically sound fighter of the 175 champs and he will be seen as cherry picking but if he fights anyone else he will be seen as cherry picking look at how he cleaned out the 168 champs and was accused of it anyway

    There's not 1, but two Juggernaut Joe's..:deal:

And ironically, they're both Virgos and born a day apart from one another, Joe Joyce September 19th, Joe Smith Jr. September 20th. But a 4 years age gap. And both also fine Irish lads.:deal:

Agreed with your first two points but not sure about this one. The ones who succeed at pulling down the guard have faster or more dynamic feet. JSJ keeps things simple and stable to generate power and preserve endurance.

If he tried it he'd either have no leverage on it or he would stumble in for counters/leave himself unable to attack. It's not a tactic that really goes with his style.

I mean after creating openings for it. Even Geffrard said beforehand that everything he throws is wide and I think he needs to mix it up more because, as with Alvarez, he was able to block a high percentage of his hooks because he was expecting them. As you say though, his gas tank is crazy. He threw a very high percentage of bombs at Alvarez all night and he still looked fresh at the finish.

Yeah he should've jabbed more to the body. Even though it's not the prettiest his boxing skills have improved in recent years and as I was saying earlier he's either badly hurt, dropped, stopped or KO'd everyone he's fought since moving up to the world level and that's impressive.

 They are kind of similar in a number of ways.

Both have insane engines and throw a ton of shots.

They aren't the best defensively and have kind of awkward but deceptively very effective styles.

Their skills are somewhat underrated by many.

Not the best technique but powerful and very tough with rock solid chins.

They're both very difficult to keep off of you and they just keep plugging away until they grind you down.

 I think Joyce is Scottish not Irish IIRC. Close enough though so Irish it is :deal:

People are being a bit harsh on Geffrard. He took the fight on very late notice and acquitted himself very well all things considered. Sure he was very defensive but so were Alvarez and Hart against Smith and Hart stunk the joint out running, holding and spoiling all night like a female dog. Did he really do any worse than either of them or that much worse? I wasn't expecting an early blow out because I suspected given his amateur pedigree and all the top fighters and murderous punchers he's done many rounds with in the gym that he would be competent and know his way around a ring and how to look after himself at the least and let's not forget that Smith is one of the biggest punchers in a division full of savage bangers.

Nice workout for Joe Smith jr. Geffrard took a hell of a beating. He needs to be checked out at a hospital.
This was a total shutout for Joe, he easily won every round and took his time wearing Geffrard down.
Simths a throwback, love watching him fight.
    Bring on Beterbiev next.

    Close enough.:sisi1

Virgos are known for being relentless, obsessive, demanding, indefatigable, stubborn, tough as nails, and grinders. Sounds about right.:D
