I look forward to picking through some of these later.

McGovern was one of the scariest examples of what concussions + alcohol + dormant mental illness can do to a man. Evidently his life was a non-stop nightmare from before he retired until his death, with multiple nervous breakdowns, violent outbursts, hospitalizations etc. Ad Wolgast, Billy Papke, and the original (NP) Jack Dempsey were also early boxing casualties.

Just some early ones so far, but I'll try and get reports for all his major fights.

Thanks. McGovern looks like a handful on film. An incendiary flame with a tragic crash to earth. There should be a definitive bio of him.

Couldn't find a report for his fight with Patsy Donovan, not an important one, but I'd like to fill it in

Vs Jimmy Rose, (seems like this was a bigger deal than a glance of boxrec would suggest, I'll try and find a bit more on Rose)

There is a new bio out about 'nonpareil' Jack Dempsey. Seems expensive, though.

The Barrett doesn't seem to be displaying properly.

THE BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE. NEW YORK, FRIDAY JUNE 9, 1899
    MC GOVERN WHIPS BARRETT
The Great Little Fellow Recovered From the Heat Prostration .
Terry McGovern again returned the winner at the Broadway Athletic Club last evening by forcing Billy Barrett of New York to quit In tho tenth round. Barrett developed one of the most brilliant streaks of yellow Imaginable, for with only a few seconds to go, and despite the entreatics of his friends who had bet their money freely that Terry could not stop him in ten rounds, he laid down like a whipped dog, taking as an excuse a right on the jaw. The referee saw what was up right away, and without taking the trouble to count, told Terry to go to his corner. Barrett then betrayed himself by jumping to his feet and making the old grand stand play of helng anxious to go on. Terry was In excellent shapa, jand showed none of the effects of the heat prostration from which he suffered two days ago.
