Zaggers wins this with some moments Toney looking class. Calzaghes output and speed too much.

Nunn was let down by having a lesser defence and less durability than Prime Calzaghe. Jirov is alot slower than Calzaghe. I think Calazghe would shoe shine Toney all night, once hes warmed up. Toney will try walk him down late rounds, and will have success,, but Calzaghes fitness sees the end.

Hopkins is less talented than Toney offensively, but has better movement, hes rangier, dirtier, and always in peak condtion. So thats not a comparsion in my opinion.

This is a great matchup. That said, Toney's conditioning determines the outcome.

Calzaghe never had a stand out performance against anyone close to as good as prime Michael Nunn, who is as good as Calzaghe prime for prime. Calzaghe is also not some defensive wizard he was hit by right hands at will by Reid, Woodhall, all night. And was dropped heavily by the likes of Kabary Salem.

Calzaghe looks good regarding eye test, but his opposition for the most part at Super Middleweight was forgettable. It's alright looking good vs the likes of Veit, Lacy, but against an ATG like Toney in his prime is a whole different ball game.

Toney for me, amazing inside game but I have always under estimated Calzaghe. I thought Kessler would deal with him!

If this fight was allowed to be fought at the pace I'd expect it to be fought at then JT would be blowing outta his arse by about round 7 , Calzaghe was all about pace & angles he also had a fantastic ability to understand what wasn't working for him and quickly adapt to plans B , C & D .imo Joe wins a clear Decision after some scary moments from 3-6 .

I also would have loved to see welterweight like Calzaghe against Floyd.

“Life and death with Kessler” ??

    “Probably lost to B-Hop” ??

Lol What are you talking about?? Those two things never happened. Calzaghe CLEARLY beat Kessler and outworked Hopkins while reducing him to a horrible actor trying to get point deductions.

And you “Love Super Joe”?:lol::lol: For some reason I doubt that very seriously. Lol

And if Tiberi could outwork and out box Toney I’m pretty sure Joe could.

I like how this match-up produces three very distinct ranges of analysis:

    • those of us who find it mystifying unpredictable and think it probably would be closely fought (or maybe not, if one guy really established himself and confounded the other, but that's unknowable in the hypothetical and would have to reveal itself on the night in real life)
    • those convinced that Calzaghe would easily outwork him and take a clear W.
    • those convinced Toney has the cure to all southpaws and would finesse him.

...and groups B & C are wholly assured of themselves and unwilling to entertain the idea that maybe the other's sides points have any merit.

That's how you know it's an interesting one to contemplate. :deal:

Yes. Toney was dominated by unknown Tiberi & got worked by Drake Thadzi..
both are inferior to prime Kessler , who I rate alongside fighters like DM. Calzaghe never went life & death with MK anyway.. he clearly beat him.. but if you're such an expert on Toney why don't you tell everybody how he got such a gift decision once that his opponent walked away from the sport in disgust & never fought again.. he also lost twice to a fkin midget.. so your remark actually doesn't quite hold firm when we take off the Rose tinted glasses and hold it up to scrutiny..

General Forum has it 26-15-1 in Calzaghe's favor; Classic has it 11-9.
