If he isn't one of your favorites, watch something other than boxing.

As much of a mismatch as that was, he enjoyed more bursts of high-quality offense on Alvarez than has any other opponent.

He also stood up to maybe Canelo's best televised offensive performance.

"I've never had to hit anybody that hard..."

    - Alvarez in his post-fight interview

Coupled with his never-say-die effort against Ortiz, and his past history (game and highly competitive in all three of his prior televised losses against Ferguson, Santana and Vargas which were two SD's and a MD...and having sprung a few gutsy upsets over Tyrone Harris, Patrick Lopez, Marvin Cordova Jr. and Mike Dallas Jr.) this brave resistance against a young phenom with a middleweight's body places Jose Manuel Lopez among the top blood-and-guts warriors of the sport today.

There is absolutely nothing you could possibly dislike about his style in the ring or how he carries himself outside of it.

You see the interview where DLH said Canelo would fight anyone at 154 and proceeded to name all the fighters they DIDN'T take for this fight like Lara?

He should move back to 147lb and fight Ortiz or Berto. 140lb is to small for him and 154lb is to big.

Lopez deserves a lot more respect and credit for that fight than Canelo does.

I hope Josesito drops back down and fights back in SoCal.

    He deserves another payday.

    Ortiz rematch?

    Khan?

Hell, those are both not only chances for him to cash in on being "current" and turn a quick buck, but they're actually highly winnable and would significantly bolster his resume and further earning potential.

Yup. Everything that's great about the sport. The guy fights his ass off and doesn't give a **** if he's "supposed to lose". This was an obvious mismatch and he came to fight. I will never root against him.

I maintain, with all my heart, that Lopez did infinately better than Victor Ortiz would ever have done against that version of Canelo.

Absolutely. Ortiz may pack more power and ostensibly be more dangerous, but would have been stopped earlier with his much sloppier attacks (wide hooks all night long) and poorer defense/shakier whiskers.

He's a warrior indeed but he should have been smart enough to decline a fight with Canelo.

Ortiz would have had a much harder time landing on Canelo than Josesito did, and he certainly wouldn't have fought back with the same amount of venom once Canelo revealed the type of firepower he displayed this evening.

I like Alvarez, but this is the first time I've been really impressed with him, and that's because Lopez was able to be a damned good foil for him.
