Josh Kelly - I just DONT see it, OVERRATED prospect, a KO waiting to happen!

He wasn’t exposed.

I don’t know many people who thought he would beat Avanesyan.

 

Very perceptive of me back in 2019, although that was not boring.

 

Fair play. Unlike others I have no problems admitting I was wrong and offer no excuse. I thought Kelly was better than he really was.

 

He does resemble Tom Cruise a bit. But not with his own blood all over the canvas.

Fair enough, mate. I was off the bandwagons from the start, I didn't like how he dealing with the lower level guys. Although it didn't hurt that I really didn't like him or his style.

He was out-toughed tonight, but I thought the stoppage was a bit premature. He'd also lost a lot of blood from an elbow to the back of the head and it was a great fight; a rematch should be on the cards.

 

Exactly. Different accent, though, and it's not attractive. IMO.

Avanesyan is a top 10 welter, and will hopefully get a title shot now, or at least a WBA regular or title eliminator fight. Kelly should fight for the British title later this year, and then try again and see if he can win a European title next year or so. If he goes up to 154, he would struggle even domestically.

Kelly has a lot to improve, including his defence and stamina beyond the first rounds. All that Avanesyan had to do in this fight was to be patient and stay out of trouble, and put pressure on Kellly until he ran out of steam. By the end of round 4, Kelly was already done. He got a bit too confident after three rounds, started showboating and talking a little, and then Avanesyan just worked hard on him for 1.5 rounds until he had no defence left. Anyone having seen Kelly's recent fights and Avanesyan's recent wins could have predicted this outcome, even if I thought the TKO/KO would come 2-3 rounds later.
