This weekend Josh Kelly fights David avanesyan for the Russians European title. It will the first time both have boxed in 14 months. David avanesyan who now resides in Nottinghamshire has a record of 26 wins with 3 losses and a draw. He has several decent wins against way past his best but still experienced legend shane Mosley and two very good stoppage wins over previously undefeated Kerman Lejarraga who is a very good fighter. Avanesyans 3 losses have come against world class Lamont Peterson, egidijus kavaliauskas and really early on in his career to the capable Andrey klimov. We cant read too much into the klimov loss as both were very green. Josh Kelly who only has 11 pro fights to his name with 10 wins and a draw, had a very good amateur career and has been highly touted since he turned pro and people took note when watching the fast Kelly's highlight reels made on YouTube. He has pure class and quick hands. He then faced ray Robinson (not the greatest fighter ever ray Robinson from 60 years ago) and in that fight it was the first and only time Josh showed a few flaws and in some peoples eyes was lucky to get a draw. This is a classic pick em fight with experience and toughness of avanesyan and the youth and speed of Kelly. Both are career welterweights, Kelly having advantages with footwork and speed and the Russian having the the experience of boxing at a high level over 12 rounds having been the championship rounds 4 times and Josh never going past ten rounds. This is a genuine 50/50 fight in the bookies eyes, fight fans eyes and mine too. With no real confidence I see Kelly having his moments and maybe being ahead on points before avanesyan getting to him late My other article. Wrote it in 15 mins.
