Here is why I am picking Kos [yt]88y4jgCxoQk[/yt] [yt]_d1EVWe_HuE[/yt] While obviously Hughes and Kos are very different in some ways, they are similar in others. Thiago likely will not be 4lbs over, which means he was probably way way over on weigh in day before cutting, missing by 4 is missing by alot, and that weight seems to go up exponentially after weigh ins Kos, especially at this point, has better takedowns than Matt, frankly they are ALOT better. Hughes is the better sub grappler, both in subs and positioning, and better off his back. Kos will probably never be put on his back, and if he does, that would be a bad spot for him, but I think he would scramble up. Kos is a much much better striker than Hughes, Thiago will have to respect that, making the takedown easier. Kos, at this point, has better GnP than Hughes, enough to stop Thiago even.
I see Thiago landing a big knee on a shooting Kos, stunning him while Thiago goes in for the finish. I could very well be wrong though. The smart money may actually be on Kos, but I'll stick with my pick.
Kos will win using his wrestling and will negate Alves Muay Thai. I think this is a UD victory for Kos. Dont see anyway Alves can win this in my opinion.
I've been wondering if we even need to refer to Hughes here; what about Fitch? Same camp as Kos right? Not as good a wrestler? Beat ALves pretty easily? Is this not an apt comparison for some reason?
Alves has too much mass for that weight class. He must have to weight drain a ton.. That means his endurance is likely crap. Kos can take him to the and gas him there, he wont last more than two rounds.
I would say that Kos will win and that Kos is underrated. I truly believe Josh Koscheck is not only an elite 170lber, but I think he beats anyone at this weight except GSP (and Penn if he moves up.)
I agree, alot of people hated Kos when he first started because he was a boring lay n pray wrestler, but he has improved and evolved and has heavy hands as well, not a technical striker but his hands are a threat now. Alves in thoses videos looks really roided, he was way bigger then Hughes who is a decent size WW. But that is a huge weight cut and if the fight goes to the 3rd round that might affect Alves.
