For guy that’s as slick as him, too often he plants his feet, stays in the pocket with zero head movement and gets caught to much. To often he seems to want a tear up with his opponents something he admitted post fight. He needs to sort it out or Prograis will cause him serious trouble. It’s something he can easily work on and give him a far better chance in the final.
Yep, he doesn't mind standing and trading but he was caught and hurt tonight at one stage. Cant afford to do that with better opponents and long-term it will shorten his career. He's better when he works on the inside and pivots and moves after. I personally think he needs a more experienced trainer to get the best out of his ability, not sure Shane will do that if I'm being honest.
He seems pretty confident the can take a hit and leaves himself there to hit and eventually he’s going to get dropped hard once he moves up in competition or weight, he’s a class operator but needs more discipline and perhaps a tougher more experienced trainer
Dunno if I was abit pissed last night but his jab while quick doesn't seem very authorative... Almost range finder pitty pat... And I feel he fights alot better offensively than he does of the back foot.. Although he does have some beautiful footwork and head movement... Looking forward to him vs prograis... Real 50/50 Edit.. Oh and he has a tendency to admire his work after he lands a shot
Post fight Taylor did express he could have fought a cleverer fight and probably got involved too much. It was a great fight though and showed Taylor toughness , Baranchyk is rugged but needs a fair bit of polishing to get back in the mix. I think most agree Prograis is a much harder nights work.
This will be a very unpopular move but Taylor could pull out now. He is world champion after 15 fights. I think this prograis fight is coming to soon for him. He could come back and defend his belt, get 3 or 4 good defences in and see where he is. I think he will stay in and try his luck in the final. If he loses the final it's no big deal for me he can learn from it. I just think prograis is the best in the division and not a fight you want as your 16th fight.
Did anyone know the reason why he missed weight at the first attempt by the way? I thought he looked comfortable last night to be honest. He was never in any real danger and always had the measure of balancyhk. Balancyhk reminded me of the guy Groves put away to finally win the world title, limited skill set, but super fit and sturdy. It was a good win for Taylor, and as mentioned above, it's only his 15 Pro fight. And he hasn't fought a bozo in God knows how long.
This. He gets caught on the inside occasionally by world class fighters when his bread and butter is staying in the pocket.
Taylor was brilliant last night but he did get a bit careless at times and neglected his defence a wee bit, which is very dangerous against somebody like Baranchyk and would be a lot more dangerous against Prograis who is a very clever boxer and will punish any mistakes. Overall though, Taylor was brilliant and that was a great win. I think the knockdowns might have played a part in Taylor getting a wee bit careless, he probably felt in total control of the fight at that point, and knew he was the superior boxer. I felt like Baranchyk was always a threat though and he had his moments. Taylor got to show his skills and his toughness last night, but to beat Prograis I think he'll need to show better concentration. I can't wait for that fight.
One thing Taylor certainly doesn't lack, is confidence. I think he'll be gunning for Prograis now in the full belief that he can beat him. No way would or should Taylor pull out of the tourney. It would be a shameful duck, which the Tartan Tornado wouldn't dream of doing.
