Needs to get some activity now. Has to fight 3 times in 2025. He’s had 5 fights in over 5 years and one of those was a 1 round job against Khongsong. Comeback fight early 2025, a fight in the summer and then a world title shot end of the year hopefully.
World title shot at 140 or 147? Don't see a route to a World title at 147 - they can't get a unification for Boots Ennis despite him doing million dollar gates in Philadelphia. I'd personally love to see Taylor have a comeback fight and then fight the winner of Crocker vs Donovan. Scotland vs Ireland rivalry needs to be reignited. @Beale
Benn - Taylor in the Kingdom, calling it now (as Eddie's backup plan if the Eubank fight doesn't materialise)
I think Crocker beats Donovan personally. Crocker vs Donovan headlining at the SSE Arena in Belfast in April next year apparently.
I don’t think so mate. Matchroom need UK headliners. I think Taylor still has something left to give but he needs activity and to stay injury free. His last 3 camps have been terrible due to injuries and various issues but what’s done is done. The main issue is trainers trying to change his style. Taylor always fought on the inside when he was with McGuigan. Under Davison and particularly McNally he starts his attacks from too far out. He’s never had great head movement so when he’s attacking from a distance against good counter punchers like Catterall and Lopez it means he’s far easier to hit and can get picked off quite easily. I’ve watched Taylor’s entire career and it annoys me to watch him box like he has the last 3 fights. It annoys me even more that his reputation to a lot of people seems to have been diminished. He’s still a British boxing great.
A lot can happen in 3 fights, especially since the belts have fragmented with Crawford moving up. Matchroom have Ennis, Benn, Crocker, Giyasov, Donovan etc all in various top 15’s. Do they still have Cissokho too? He’s ranked highly with a few of the governing bodies and is fighting Kavaliauskas in a final eliminator next month.
I'm not sure Taylor a great deal left at the level he wants to be, however a truly great career so I'd be happy to be wrong
Yeah same. The difference between 140 and 147 is massive in terms of quality, and he falls short at 147. He's had a decent career, but 140 was his ceiling. Can't say I'm overly interested in a 3rd fight between him and Catterall, but yeah, go ahead with it, I'm sure some are.
