Up next it seems. Great fight. https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/12615314/josh-taylors-promotional-team-confirm-they-are-working-on-world-title-defence-against-jose-zepeda
Not giving Catteral a rematch and staying at 140 is a bit ****. He's not even undisputed anymore either. Must be hanging round for the Lopez fight
Wouldn't get sanctioned mate. 3 mandatories already queued up in Puello, Ponce and Zepeda all pushing for their shot. Dropped 1 but can't expect him to drop all 4 and there's no room for voluntary defences when you've got all the belts.
What is he still doing at 140? Got nothing left to prove. In fact the only thing he does have to prove is that he can actually beat Catterall so if he’s staying at 140 that should be the only fight he’s looking at. Unless Catteralls made him shook of the big boys at 147
“Most definitely this will be my last fight at 140lbs. That's the last fight at 140lbs. Time to move up." I have pretty much nothing but admiration for what Taylor has done and how he has done it but this comment, after the Catterall fight, just seems like an excuse now and for me tarnishes things somewhat. Shame.
Dangerous fight this and will be even more so if the weight cut is genuinely getting too much for Taylor.I think he should move up but the problem is there’s nothing going to happen for him there anytime soon with pbc essentially running things. As for catterall he needs to move on from this now and whoever’s managing/promoting him get their fingers/wallets out and get him some higher profile fighters to fight..he can’t wait about again for years fighting dross hoping to blag a title shot,he’s good enough to be mixing it with the best.
I’m not defending Taylor here and caterall definitely deserves a rematch but this is a much better fight and a better opponent imo
Probably gone through the 147 options with Top Rank and realised there’s nothing there. PBC - Spence, Ennis Golden Boy - Ortiz Free agent who’s departed Top Rank on bad terms - Crawford
It's not a great look staying at the weight but not Rematching the fighter that everyone thought beat him and Taylor was a fighter that's fights everyone guess not only when it suits him
Taylor's reputation takes another black eye here, staying at 140 but not fighting Caterall again. Taylor vs Zepeda is an exciting fight though. I hope Caterall gets himself a big fight and a big win to do everything he can to force a rematch with Taylor.
I do not like it and thought Taylor had boxed for the last time in that weight class. He looked completely dead on the scales last time...
If this is his last fight at 140, why defend against a mandatory if you’re going to vacate straight afterwards anyway. Would have been better if he just fought Catterall or moved up to 147, probably waiting for the fight against Lopez when he inevitably moves up. To be fair to Taylor though, Zepeda is easily the toughest out of all the mandatories possible.
