Ortiz Jr is basically a bigger Regis with a better jab and inside fighting

Great fight for Taylor when he moves up.

I thought Spence was talking about an Ortiz fight. Hope to see that. Taylor still has some good fights at 140. I’m sure he will fight Ortiz when he moves up if it’s the best fight. He hasn’t ducked anyone at 140. Can’t say the same for Spence and Crawford who have managed to duck each other. I’m starting to think Spence is the culprit.

Not a fight for the foreseeable future, let's see Taylor at 147 first.

Ain't nothing left for Taylor at 140, he's won all the belts. He needs to move on up. He is 5'9" and walks around at 150 or more.

Wouldn't want that as a first fight at that weight that being said not too much left at 140lb.

Why not? Thats a perfect fight to gauge how well he would do at the weight. Id love to see to see him fight Ortiz in his 147 pound debut.

It just depends on how confident Josh is.

I would rather he take one of the top contenders first make a few adjustments if required and if he feels confortable at the weight then go for it.

Just jumping up and fighting someone who has knocked all but one guy out might be a bit of an ask.

    What do I know...

I'd love to see that one too - Ortiz hits hard, and probably learned a ton in his fight against Mean Machine, but right now I think Josh is a level above in skills and would take it.

Probably a difficult fight to make though, I'm sure Ortiz and Ennis are both looking for a title shot (as would Taylor coming up) but Taylor would probably be fairly high-risk low-reward given he has no belt - though it would be good for their P4P standing I guess.

My guess is if Taylor can't get a top name/ title shot straight away, he wouldn't take an aclimitisation fight against a high-risk banana skin like Ortiz or Ennis - the high risk thing goes both ways!

As I said on another thread, Avnenasyan would be a great fight for Taylor - one he'd be expected to win, and David seems to be fairly avoided so might be good money for him at this stage in his career too.

Josh Taylor exudes confidence, theres no doubt in my mind that if a fight with Vergil presented itself right now, he'd take it tommorow. He's the undisputed champion at 140 so id expect him to take on a top dog at 147 right out the gate.

That might be so but my point still stands.

Going up is not the problem facing someone who is very strong at the weight with a very high KO percentage is a big risk.

Taylor clearly has the better skills but some of these guys at Welter roll into the ring weighing a lot more north of Middle and one or two being close to Super Middle. Josh has got reasonable height but would need to bulk up a bit as to not get bullied and doing that takes a little time unless you get on the gear.

So maybe not the smartest thing to do. If he does and get's the belt then he proves me wrong but I don't believe that will be the route to take.

Let the champs at 147 do their own dirty laundry. They can't keep running from ''Super Boots'' Ennis and Ortiz forever and Terry and Errol can't keep playing the barking dogs either side of the fence game forever either.

Expecting JT to fight their mandatory challengers for them

Terry is a real one and he might have enough to hold off their charge but JT who is another real one might well invoke the WBO's rule to force his shot at him and if so we'll see a battle between two P4P top 5 studs
