Correct, boxing shown on ITV primetime Saturday night would be enormous, even if it's a PPV. If the money is there then that will be the place to be no question. But it will still depend on promoters. A fighter can't just go to ITV on his own and say pay me to fight, there's still got to be someone there crunching the numbers on their behalf to make it work. What's to say Matchroom don't end their Sky contract early and move their entire stable over to ITV? Or at least move their big fighters like AJ and Brook over to ITV PPV and leave the rest on Sky? ANYTHING is possible and can be done if there's enough money thrown at it.
The only promoter without tv is Hennessey- totally possible he could end up on ITV again. I agree that Hearn does look slightly less sure of himself now- clearly he knows something big in the pipeline that may affect his bottom line in the future.
The Furys are. Lenny Daws with his fight on the 17th still has no broadcaster. Can see Dave/ITV maybe getting involved with that one. I don't think Mick is in a very strong position and won't sign anyone until the TV situation is sorted out.
Why would ITV pay to get fighters or do PPV when they barely show any football which is the biggest sport by far. ITV Sports coverage in general is very poor.
A PPV fee wouldn't be much of an outlay for what they could recoup on a well known name. Whenever boxing has been on ITV they've always got good numbers. It really makes you wonder why they haven't gone in for coverage in a bigger way beforehand.
They can't just walk away from the contract. There is a reason exlusivity goes both ways. Matchroom want all the Sky dates and Sky want the Ppv stars. If anything itv getting involved will see sky throw more money at matchroom to produce better quality cards.
Think bunce once said that things like late pull outs were why a lot of terrestrial tv channels swerve boxing as they plan their schedule for weeks around the fight and they can collapse a few days before. Barb numbers for the groves fight was 800k (inc 5 +1), doesn't look good but don't trust those Barb numbers as Middlesbrough v Watford had 15% more viewers on sky sports man united v Arsenal the day before for that week
Its Richard Poxon who will be the main man from itv. Now how hes going to achieve it all i dont know. Whether hes going to try sign a load of fighters up or whether he will use other promoters i dont know. Thing is hes (itv) are coming in at a time when the best fighters are already signed or will be getting signed elsewhere (ref fr4nks deal with bt)
Maybe his dad and his manager thought that a couple more fights before selby was the best way to go (in a buisness sense) and lets be right about this, they are correct. I think a lot of people forget that this is a buisness, the bbbc is a ltd company, why...because this is a buisness. Now no one can argue that putting the selby fight bk makes better buisness sense, thats as long as all the other variables that have to be calculated into the probability become actualised. For example, he (josh) doesnt lose any of the fights he takes instead of selby. The fans keep coming to his fights, and other variables. Regarding josh not been at the meetings, sometimes this just aint practical. Dont forget that u also haveto fit in with hearns schedule and if ur in the middle of a camp,it can sometimes be unfeasable. Also that is why u have managers, to do this work for u. At the end of the day, theres only 4 people here who have the right story, for the rest of us its secondary information and this can have a spin on it.
