Martin Ward vs Rudy Encarnacion currently on, with Ward outboxing Encarnacion through the first two.

 

He's got some decent scalps on his resume, and doubled over Ward in the first for a moment with a well placed hook to the body, but yeah, MJW clearly has the edge in technique and speed.

 

Martin J Ward up three-zip. Rudy's lunges and rainbow right hands aren't landing all that cleanly, while Ward has zoned in with the one-two and has raised some swelling around his foe's left eye.

 

Round 4: Encarnacion has a bit of success early targeting the body but Ward doesn't seem that affected and re-takes control with the jab. Couple of nice check hooks catch the Spaniard and Ward lands a right hand near the end to put his stamp on this stanza.

40-36 Ward

 

Round 5: More of same, with Encarnacion lunging and flailing and Ward calmly standing off and picking his foe apart with counter rights and a consistent jab. Ward starts to edge forward, with the apparent intent of doing more damage to his opponent.

 

Round 6: Ward is now coming forward, stalking behind the jab until he traps his foe near the ropes. Encarnacion flails back, but Ward steps away and lands a HARD right hand that shakes his opponent. Encarnacion holds on, and gets warned for it. Mauling in close, with Ward doing all the punching. Another right hand has Rudy looking unsteady at the bell.

60-54.

 

Round 7: Ward continues to control the pace, pot-shotting with the jab, right and the occasional hook, but then the two collide head first and Ward emerges with a cut on the forehead. Emboldened, Encarnacion lands a couple of right hands to remind his foe that he's still in there. Not enough to win the round, though.

70-63

 

Round 8: Encarncion builds on the momentum from the last past of round 7 and has some success mauling his foe while landing a looping right hand from time to time. After one right hand, Encarnacion pitches forward and falls to the mat, but it's ruled a slip. Ward comes back and controls the last part of the round with the jab, but not much is landing clean this stanza. Encarnacion shades it, imo.

79-73

 

Round 9: Ward rights the ship in this frame, and appears to get his timing back with the jab and counter right. Encarnacion back to lunging and gets clipped a few times for his effort.

89-82 Ward

 

Round 10: Ward continues to strafe his foe with one twos, while calmly deflecting and dodging Rudy's return fire. Rudy plugs forward, both hands churning, but gets out-punched and out-landed once again.

99-91 Ward is my card.

Judges cards:

100-91, 99-91, 98-92 for Ward, who remains undefeated.

 

Pretty good performance by Ward against an ancient, but determined veteran. A little one paced at points, but not a bad showing at all.
