I think you are overestimating Leigh's ability to take headbutts, which is Josh's best weapon in the UK.
That's why records are for DJ's..... he hits much harder than his record suggests. Similar KO % to Jazza Dickens on paper who buzzed and hurt Wood numerous times on his way to beating him.... Wood was holding on for dear life in the 9th round. He's a bigger puncher than Conlan who nearly wiped Wood out in the first round and again hurt him numerous times. What a fight that was though, Wood showed serious grit and the finish was superb. Warrington however would've jumped on him in the 2nd round and is a much better finisher than Conlan. Frampton said after there fight he couldn't believe how hard Warrington hit and that he was hurt numerous times. I'm sure he also said he's the hardest puncher he's faced in an interview but don't hold me to that.
Hitting hard doesn't equal stoppages, as you imply. Warrington hasn't stopped the vast majority of his opponents, no matter how much harder he may hit than his record suggests. His only notable win by stoppage was on Saturday, and that was an awful British stoppage. Warrington attacks relentlessly with abundant power punches every minute of every round - and he still can't stop people. I actually highly doubt he is a bigger puncher than Conlan, and I don't think there's a very good case to see he's a better finisher either. They've finished the same amount of people, despite Conlan having half as many fights and fighting FAR less aggressively. As far as I'm aware, Frampton named Donaire as the biggest hitter he'd faced. There's nothing to suggest on either's record that Warrington would stop Wood. Even Kiko Martinez isn't really that hard to stop. Virtually every top fighter he's fought has done it, and Warrington did it against the worst version, and had the least impressive performance.
I think Warringtons self life is coming to an end soon. I think he lost a part of himself in the first Lara fight and he had took some damage against Kiko which should of been an easy nights work
conlan no way nearly had wood out in the first them same people were the ones screaming after half hour groves would still spark froch all demanded the rematrematch look what happened
Not to say that Warrington is categorically incapable of hurting/stopping Wood, and I believe that @Furey makes a fair general point, but I'm in agreement with you there, George. I think Frampton was mainly so taken aback on account of Warrington's ferocity and having expected so little from the Leeds man's punch to begin with. Certainly, Scott Quigg would have to be considered a harder hitter than Josh.
Lol come off it. His head bouncing off the canvas is what woke him up.... when he got up his legs weren't there, he was lucky he had the bell. "IF" it had happened earlier on in the round Wood was getting finished, that's how good the shot was. Fortunately though, it happened on the bell and he managed to get through it. Took him a few rounds to get his legs back and then he produced the barn stormer of a finish.
If Kiko had a majestic forward sloping curly perm like Wood's to protect him from Warrington's Dre-esque billy goat rushes he wouldn't have received a single cut and he would've won the fight.
