No denying that, but I was hoping the standard for cheif support on a Matchroom/DAZN "Netflix of sport" "Game Changed" card might be a bit better. I mean the calibre of boxing you see at York Hall is infinity better than that. I get Shields, Mayer, Taylor or Marshall being higher up on the cards, but not this.

Being a world champion in women’s boxing is unfortunately about as big a deal as the England women’s team winning the Euros. The media try and make us believe it’s huge, but most of us aren’t buying it.

 

It's probably more that there's only one top level boxer in the division and Marshall's promoter managed to position her well. I don't think she was ever hyped up, just easy to sell as best of the rest. Different planet from Shields though.

I remember Warrington coming out to crowds going nuts early on in his career before he even won a title. This looks like the snooker crowd at the crucible

I always found Warrington the boxer really hard to like - the angry young man persona wears a bit thin the older he gets. It's strange because when he's interviewed outside the ring he seems like a decent enough guy.

 

They got away with that purely because she did beat Shields once. Nothing more.
