McDonnell is drawing Wale along, throwing short left uppercuts into his jaw while leaning in on him with his long body folded up like a lawn chair. Short combos rattled off by McDonnell leaping back out to range, circling while he can and then flopping in to hold and scrap up close as Wale keeps on the pressure but fails to get his punches off. Wale is crashing down with the right up top, his best success in those moments as he flaps ineffectively at the body with hooks inside otherwise.

Round 7

McDonnell is dancing around, sticking the jab and swerving from side to side, flashing both hands out into Wale's face to blind him and sitting on the ropes, putting his gangly limbs out to screen Wale's shots. Wale is getting through with the right hand on the nose of McDonnell as he leans straight back onto the ropes. Left hooks softly flapped onto the belt line by Wale, setting up his true intent with the whip-over right hand up top.

Round 8

McDonnell is backing onto the ropes, throwing left uppercut leads past Wale's head. Wale is keeping his face down, working right hands up and straight through into McDonnell's face, continuing to worsen the bleeding from his nose. Wale is putting combinations together, strapping McDonnell against the ropes with both arms pumping. Body shots by Wale as McDonnell tries shoving out to center ring, holding him down in place.

Fan scores on Twitter show a close one, some having Wale up a round, some McDonnell, and many a draw.

 

I won't mind seeing a rubber match if Wale pulls this off with a strong close in the final third.
