AJ hasn't got the tools or born qualities to be aggressive and successful against Usyk Fury does though
Joshua has to knock him out to win and boxing will miss a much needed windfall if he doesn't. I hope Joshua wins. Then he'll fight Fury, lose and retire. Fury will stage a string of entertaining bum fights and retire too. After that the HW void.
I don't. I believe Usyk is better than Joshua, and I want to see the best heavyweight matchup. Joshua has an opportunity to prove my following statement wrong, but, until he does, I'm declaring that the particular relevance of Fury-Joshua has passed in all but economic terms.
He might be more competitive, but i still see the same outcome. A Usyk win, maybe even a stoppage this time depending if Joshua comes more aggressive.
As mentioned Joshua may well go for the stoppage, and if so it will be inside the first 6 rounds,If more than likely Usyk is still there after say these 6 rounds then Joshua gets stopped badly.
I feel the same, he has to go all out in rounds 1 - 4 trying to take usyks head off but if he fails usyk is going to put the hurting on him
I am no great boxing oracle but the only way AJ can beat the master boxer Usyk is by using his size and strength, AJ might well gas and be a sitting duck in second half of fight BUT likewise he might connect and turn Usyks lights out early on. AJ if you are going to lose then give it your all and go out on your shield, rather than losing big on the cards as you will if decide to box the boxing maestro. Usyk must know that AJ will be throwing everything he has in early rounds and he will have strategies to cope, however one heavy AJ punch connecting to a critical area of Usyks head and we shall see what happens. What has AJ got to lose by going in all guns blazing, nothing, he doesn't have the title to lose, he might get lucky punch in and win, and if not will be acknowledged as at least going out as a warrior
Usyk would beat Joshua more easily but at this point I am not convinced that the fight will ever happen.
We've all heard the saying "don't hook with a hooker". Well, that goes for most other aspects of boxing as well. Joshua tried to think with a thinker and he was playing checkers while Usyk was playing chess. If AJ lets his hands go and uses his natural strength advantage he could hurt and eventually stop Usyk but I don't think that will happen. Joshua has never been a lay it all on the line, go for the KO type of guy and since the first Ruiz fight he has been more tentative and docile than ever. Usyk by decision but if AJ doesn't bring his will, desire and heart he will get overwhelmed by a Usyk attack and the ref will stop it with both men still standing.
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to pressure a master boxer, who also happens to have tremendous chin and stamina and has enough pop to stop you on your tracks? It takes tremendous engine, balance, footwork and durability. AJ hasn’t showed any balance problems but in all other areas he seemed lacking. McCracken knew this, so they went with the less risky option: Be in the centre of the ring, try to bait Usyk into staying in the pocket with low workrate and hope that occasional right hands would be enough to wear him down en route to a late stoppage or put him in full defensive mode so they could grab a decision. AJ was never a pressure fighter, he was an agressive counter puncher until Ruiz got to him. He never needed to really chase an opponent in the pros, his opponents either stood in front of him or moved in straight. (Savon and Dychko in the olympics did show him movement, but that was a decade ago and those fights didn’t really go well for AJ regardless of the official result) Cutting the ring off is a very difficult art, and Chocolatito and GGG are the only fighters that I can think of among active fighters who can make it look easy. Will Joshua be able to soecialize that in short few months under Robert Garcia, against arguably the best pure boxer in the game since Floyd Mayweather? That’s a very long shot. Same thing with imposing your size. It’s a lot easier said then done. We saw in the first fight that with his positioning, Usyk was able to negate Joshua’s strength advantage in the chlinches, is AJ gonna be able to adjust to it in short few months? Fury did change his style in the Kronk gym and perfectly demonstrated how to impose his size, but he already knew those clinching tricks to wear down his opponent, he used them against Cunningham years ago. It’s too optimistic to expect the same from Joshua.
