Joshua’s next two fights

As much as people throw hate towards Hearn/Matchroom/AJBXNG/AJ

You've got to admit, this type of thing is insane... And is doing wonders for the sport. Can only presume we are looking at AJ v Whyte for April however (especially if whyte puts parker flat on his arse)

 

What's funny is when people try and and claim no other promoter would be doing the same thing.

Any promoter who has AJ would do whatever possible to max out as much revenue as possible. Yes as a live spectacle an arena fight is better but no promoter would stage a fight in front of 20k fans when they could instead sell 90k tickets. It just wouldn't happen.

 

Agree, however I do think the backing of Sky makes a massive difference and the 'mainstream' style of matchroom seems to work better than anyone else.

 

These would be insane numbers so fair play to Joshua and Hearn if they pull it off.

However, the notion that these numbers "do wonders for boxing" is pretty misguided. About half of these fans who will attend and buy this PPV event are pure casuals who won't buy anything without Joshua involved.

So it's great for Eddie Hearn and Matchroom but hardly going to do wonders for boxing. It's not like this projected 100,000 gate is suddenly going to have everyone rushing to see a NXTCan show.

I'm assuming the Wilder fight isn't signed yet but obviously the 100,000 capacity is based on the assumption that it will be Wilder in April. If I was Wilder I'd be smart and play hardball and demand even more from the fight now. Because it's a potential own goal from Eddie if that fight now doesn't materialise and he ends up pulling a Frank Warren and moving from Wembley to the O2 for Joshua v Chisora.

 

If that April fight isn't Wilder, i'd argue its actually bad for boxing. dont get me wrong, its great that more money and attention is on the sport, but if its not wilder and they both sell out, they know they dont have to make the big fights because they can sell what they want and people will still buy it.

 

Personally I think they should be concentrating on Povetkin and not looking to April just yet, looking too far ahead has in the past caused problems.

Yes, I agree. I'd like a breakdown of what 'wonders' this does for boxing as a whole.

I've an awful feeling we'll end up with Whyte in April but hopefully Parker can stop that. Would still like AJ to fight more regularly to be honest but then you lose the 'big events' that some love to be a part of.

It's very impressive numbers all the same, if you're into that sort of thing.

 

If we are going to be completely cynical, let's be honest and accept that these numbers are largely down to the fact that Joshua is a good looking heavily muscled man who young men want to be and young girls want to shag. I've said it before, if Joshua had Dillian Whyte's face and man boobs he wouldn't have had any stadium fights. And all that has nothing to do with boxing. His last two fights against Takam and Parker have boring fights which are not the reason for the stadium demand.

Just have a browse on Twitter and see all the Fiat 500 slags who are tweeting about getting tickets.

I think he's bringing attention to his shows but not to the sport in general. The kids signing up is a good point but I don't know if any significant number actually have or not. Assuming they have, then yeah that is a good thing.

Slightly off topic but I think boxing would be a brilliant things to have within schools. Really think it would help tackle bullying as a means of teaching respect, discipline and self-defence.
