Joshua as champion was the worst thing for modern boxing.

Whether you like AJ or not he saved boxings reputation by destroying Ngannou after the MMA fans were laughing at us after Fury's embarrassing performance.

As for the thread....Joshua made 9 title defences he beat Wladimir, Parker, Whyte, Pulev, Ruiz, Povetkin, Takam, etc.

And also gave Usyk a very good fight in their 2nd fight.

Yeah he's not a great fighter and his resume is not amazing but people sure are quick to kick a fighter when he's down....

Joshua being champion was the worst thing for modern boxing ? Absolute nonsense.

I mean, let's just ignore the nonsense for a moment and consider the absolute bottom end (as if he was really down there)...

Which champion was the absolute worst in modern boxing?
    A) The one who fought 4 of the 5 best available to him (fought Wlad, Usyk, Pov, Parker - didn't fight Fury), was an objectionable character at times (the paddy with the belts, the fairly mild racist outburst) but ultimately an okay champion through a not great era?
    Or
    B) The serial duck who wanted no part of any unifications, avoided "A" like the plague, along with several of his opponents, lost every time he fought a contender and made a mockery of his belt with his antics - and repeatedly stated he'd like to kill someone in the ring?

Cmon, it's no contest - no matter how demented anyone's view of Joshua's reign, it's abundantly clear that he was nowhere near as awful a champion or had as bad an impact on the sport as Wilder did.

Who wasn't overrated is the question. When Fury was doing his thing some folks claimed he was the best HW ever. Wilder was the hardest puncher ever etc. Now folks are cleaning off Itauma's nuts to get ready for all the sack sucking that is soon to start.

Joshua fought the best competition he could (both Fury and Wilder made negotiations difficult) and beat some good names. Plus is a x2 time belt holder. That's not too shabby.
Honestly, the amount of flak he gets from some here is way over the top. Especially compared to Fury who disgraced himself and the sport with some of his career antics.

They all were because they sat on their status and distorted the fans understanding of the HW pecking order.

As a puncher Wilder was not overrated. Non champions have not faked their way into Wilders stat line. Wilders fake title defenses can't take that away from him.

Well, would Wilder's KO run have been impressive if he fought the top guys at his 25th-30th win? That streak would have come to a fast halt. I would argue that it's easier to KO C and D level opposition than A and B level guys.

It is easier. I'm saying no ones done it either way. Hes got the highest KO rate of any HW contender or champ in history.

Nobody has done it because nobody fought so many subpar opponents consecutively. Put any HW great in there with Wilders opponents. I'd wager you get a very similar result. M. Tyson, Liston, Lewis, Louis, Liston, Marciano, Holmes all have a very high KO percentage.
Now, don't get me wrong, for how limited Wilder was, that was an impressive streak and he can bang, but I just feel the myth of his power over shadowed his resume. I for one would not want to take a punch from him.

"nobody fought so many subpar opponents consecutively"

As a champion he might be fraudulent or mostly fraudulent but thats just not true. When you have conversations about who hit the hardest in 2075 Wilders name will be coming up in those conversations.

Marcianos SOS is worse than Wilders.

Never doubted his power, just don't think he's the hardest puncher ever. Again, do ypu doubt M. Tyson and the rest of the guys I mentioned would have less knockouts given the same opponents as Wilder?

I think that AJ has been misunderstood for a long time and him being coached by the media to be a robot caused people to dislike him. Now that he is more himself it is easier to respect him even if he does come across as stupid. I have grown to like him he has been good for boxing I believe that he has given his all and has always been willing to fight the best.
