I can only assume he thought Breazeale was going to go down or that he was contemplating a standing 8 count. It clearly gave Breazeale a second or 2 more to recover but it really didn't make a difference in the end.
I noticed this too, AJ was ready to KO Breazeale, he was stumbling there you can see, would've been a 2nd round KO rather than 7 rounds.
Maybe he could of stopped him earlier but I'm kind of glad AJ got some more rounds in. Yes it looks better had he KO'ed Breazeale early but we got to see Joshua go 7 rounds, utilise the jab, he even doubled it and we saw he could pace himself. Joshua has clearly learned and progressed from the Whyte fight and I think that's more impressive than another quick KO.
I meant, what if Dominic managed to turn the fight around after that point? Dude has some nasty uppercuts. Imagine this same instance happened in, say, Wilder vs Joshua and Wilder knocks him out after that. These things happen in boxing.
Actually the referee was technically correct. Breazeale had stumbled around and was apparently being supported by the ropes at that instant - but he bounced off and was on his two feet in the next moment. The referee actually played it to AJ's advantage.
Maybe you don't know the rules. A boxer can be considered down if the referee judges that the ropes prevented him from falling over. At that instant it was arguable that Breazeale regained his balance only with the use of the ropes.
On the contrary, you are supposed to bounce off the ropes in pro wrestling. In boxing, bouncing off the ropes when you're hurt and reeling can be considered down and a count can be administered. The rules, that's all.
WTF are you smoking? :nut What would Breazeale turn the fight around with? His non existent jab, his slow feet, his lack of head movement, his slow punches, his ability to take punches to the face? Joshua shook him bad, his feet were all over the place, he was in no way in any shape to turn anything around.
That's true but in that case the ref should have given a count. This could have been a close fight where a knockdown would be decisive.
