Agreed he's underrated. Most people only remember his performace against Pacquiao where it looked like his goal was not to get knocked out (which he achieved). Kind of reminiscent of how Omar Navarez is underrated because he pulled a Clottey in his most well known fight against Donaire.
I've heard that he admitted to some African newspaper that he threw the Pac fight Yeah that fight was suspect. He straight up just stood there with his arms up. Jim Lampley seemed really angry with him during the commentating as if he was angry that Clottey wasn't putting on a good enough act for the fight to seem legitimate.
Clottey has already insinuated throwing the pacquiao fight...what else do you expect? Jeopardise the canelo vs cotto cinco de mayo PPV? Naaahhhhh http://youtu.be/YNQ9JGT4Efw
Clotteys always been a strong dude, but he got overpowered by Cotto pretty easy, I doubt he'll overpower Canelo. What he can do is outland him, but Clottey is a low output, conservative puncher just like Canelo. Always a decent puncher, if he feels overwhelmed by speed or power, Clottey won't be coming out of his shell often. He's not a warrior as Quartey or Winky were, more of a survivor, just wants to survive the fight. But, as Cotto started tiring, Clottey was aware of that and little by little started humbling Cotto, almost as if paying him back for that bodyslam early in the fight and making him look like a ragdoll. It will be interesting.
Clottey is a damn bum who folded like a cheap tent when the biggest opportunity of his career was there for the taking. It's not that he couldn't win, it's that he didn't even try. Calling him a gatekeeper is disrespectful to gatekeepers.
When did this clottey threw the PAC fight **** start? Clottey did what he does under heavy fire...he covered up. He tried countering and had success a couple times but even opening up to counter got him clobbered with combos. Not to mention he was like a star struck kid, in shock at the prospect of sharing a ring with pacquiao. Which I found very annoying.
