Diego Corrales vs Joshua Clottey. Corrales ventures into welterweight for a 10 round non title fight against the real most avoided welterweight Joshua Clottey. Heart and volume punching vs speed and accuracy. A great war is the result. How do you look back on this classic of inside fighting?
It convinced me that their should be weigh ins the day of the fights. Clottey came into that fight at about 170lbs (it was either a lb or two below or a lb or two above)...against a fighter who spent his career essentially at 130, and had basically never been the same after the war with Castillo. WW v SMW/LHW? Not fair in my book...especially for a fight sanctioned at a catch of 149. Now was it an exciting fight? Yes...but watching Corrales get hit like that, by someone THAT much bigger...I dont know...left a sour taste in my mouth.
Nope. [yt]NIH8hxTFBSY[/yt] Watch the first 10 secs...Corrales came in at 160. But for a fighter who throughout his career walked around at 135-140...going against someone who fought his entire career above that...you cant help but think the advantage far lies with Clottey in that one. And Clottey has also done this in other fights as well...including his last one vs Judah.
Ok, you made a very good point but Corralles is grossly over weight limit as well he just went up against someone who was able to cut more weight than himself. I'm just saying 160 and 170 in a fight agreed upon 149 are both at fault. Plus, I don't think its the weight that got to Corrales but the speed of Clottey's hands instead. Either way, Corrales looked good. Didn't seem that the weight was bothering him too much.
How in the **** does Clottey rehydrate 20+ pounds? That is absolutely insane, no wonder he has stamina problems.
Chico bit off more than he could chew....you have to give your body time to adjust to a new weight class before jumping in with the lions, and he payed for it....you could see the strength difference Clottey had....
