I don't think there is a stand off, it's simply Wilder wanting something he is not entitled to and simply not being prepared to do the work necessary to make the fight very big.

A fight with Whyte makes perfect sense, it raises Wilder's profile and leads to a stadium fight with Joshua next year.

And let's remember it's a career high payday for Wilder if he fight Whyte, just let that sink in, CAREER HIGH PAYDAY to fight Whyte.

Whatever happens life will go on for Hearn, Joshua, Matchroom and Sky, providing Joshua keeps winning then he will keep selling out stadiums and keep selling PPV's, he simply does not need Wilder.

Wilder on the other hand is being paid less than Joshua's mandatory challengers now, it's embarrassing and he needs to do as he is told if he wants to make serious money and get a shot at the real number 1 heavyweight.

Agreed. The path to least resistance. That seems to be the theme & path of Wilder's career so far but in life, as the saying goes, no risks no rewards.

Wilder prefers rewards without working for it. He prefers praise and recognition without earning it. He demands big money demands without earning it. His body of work & draw in the USA speaks for itself.
He can hype himself for all he wants on his Instagram; saying he's the most feared heavyweight on the planet, etc. but it doesn't change the fact he's not a draw; he's not "the man" at heavyweight and has no leverage in making a deal with Joshua. He'd prefer to take the shortcut to get the Joshua fight and not fight anyone to get it cuz he knows he's limited and a loss to even someone like Whyte would expose him as a fraud; and I don't think he wants that hanging over his conscience.

I don't respect Deontay Wilder and I don't consider him the true champ of the heavyweight division, regardless of the noise he makes.

just watch..his next opponent will most likely be Dominic Brazeale, someone AJ already fought a while ago and not really a step up in competition. He's content in fighting the same level of competition over & over. His trajectory of level of opponents has stayed the same and hasn't risen whereas AJ''s opponents has.

I completely agree with the last two posts... great posts.

However, I can see a scenario where wilder continues as he has done fighting guys in or around world level holding on to the belt.

eventually without wilder ever lifting a finger to help promote the fight by fighting a known opponent like Whyte (in the Uk obviously) joshua and Hearn will want the belt and the payday and pressure will be on them they will eventually make the fight happen.

Wilder can continue fighting bums until a dangerous & clean fighter becomes his mandatory and it's over him.
