That's a fair point. Wlad's one punch power and jittery style could, I'd assume, cause any fighter to gas through nervous exhaustion in the expectation of a fight ending shot coming their way at any time. Takam's a lot more of a traditional pressure fighter, but he doesn't have the same level of power and tends to operate more like a machine so if Joshua keeps it calm and doesn't allow Takam into his rhythm he shouldn't have any problems.
Joshua has never really had to fight on the back foot before, and in all honesty I fail to see another fighter at present that could put him in the same position. I’d suggest to anyone for them to just watch the first round of the Wlad fight, and they’ll see that while Wlad didn’t throw a lot, he was a constant presence, and was nearly always in range. We need to remember that even at 41, Wlad was still a special fighter.
Exactly. Boxing is so much more than just what we see. It's what the opposing fighter has the possibility of seeing too. A fighter expecting something to come back at them is not going to react in the same way as a fighter who has no fear of what the opponent might bring to bear on them. That's why I found Fury's performance so impressive. He constantly kept Wlad, the master of mental warfare, at a disadvantage. Only he could have ever been so bold.
Joshua maybe at his career heaviest but on the BMI scale (yeah its not a great tool but medics seem to like it) Joshuas BMI is better than Takams. However the BMI classes both as obese, i damned well wish i looked as obese as these 2 fighters obviously are...
I can’t believe he’s only 254 pounds when a guy like Aaron Judge (one inch taller) is 282. Joshua is as built a fighter as I’ve seen. He looks like a bodybuilder more than a boxer. He’s a monster. As far as I know, Wlad’s heaviest was around 247.... to say Joshua is only 7 pounds heavier than Wlad, even at his biggest, is interesting. His musculature may not be as dense (or functional) as it looks.
This. It's not as simple as "if he was 20lbs lighter he would be a better fighter". Different people have different builds. It's highly unlikely that his team haven't worked on his stamina.
I think that's because he's a naturally slim guy. He isn't particularly big framed. Which is probably why he looks like he weighs more than he actually is.
Man he is only 4lbs heavier for this fight than he was for Klitschko. That is an extra meal and missing a sh*t for a guy this size.
It's a bit odd, to say the least, that Joshua claimed he was coming in lighter for the Pulev bout but manages to weigh his career heaviest only two weeks after the opponent switch. Either he was telling porky pies earlier (for psychological reasons) or he was somehow able to put on fifteen or twenty pounds of lean muscle in a little under a fortnight, which isn't a good look considering that's humanly impossible without the aid of, uh, certain supplements. I'd hope for the former, personally.
