It's true that Wlad was older and coming off a period of inactivity when he fought Joshua, but that doesn't automatically make Fury's win greater.

For a start, you have to always give credit for a knockout win over a 12 round decision. Secondly, Wlad looked much more focused and energetic Vs Joshua.

Numerous athletes across all sports have been able to turn the clock back and put in a performance just as good or even better than what they managed in their peak at times.

It was Wlads swansong and he was highly motivated to go out in a blaze of glory. Even though he was older, I thought he boxed at least as well Vs Joshua as he did Vs Fury.

No. A year and a half off post 40 does not make a fighter better.

As an AJ fan, Fury fought the better version. Wlad didn’t look good vs Fury because Fury kept moving and barely opened up to throw punches. AJ turned it into a war so obviously Wlad’s gonna look better

Edit: But I do agree that getting a knockout in a really great fight means more than getting a decision in one of the most boring fights of all time.

No Fury fought the better version. Champ, 2 years younger, on his home turf.

Both versions were significantly past it though

No and Klitschcko wasn't that much more active against Joshua than Fury.

If you think Wlad wasn't highly motivated to 'make an example' out of Fury, who he looked down on and was also insulted by, wake up. He also had all those belts to defend. It was a nightmare scenario for him to lose to this 'clown' in Germany. Look at devastated Wlad after the fight when Fury is singing Aerosmith. Compare to the AJ fight where he was in good spirits.

Wlad's own arrogance was his downfall in the Fury fight. He didn't think any HW could outbox him and he thought Fury would just run out of gas and be there for the KO, even though Wlad was the older guy with gassing problems.

But Wlad was a younger and more confident fighter against Fury and those aspects can't be overlooked. In the AJ fight, Wlad came to compete, he clearly knew there was a good chance he would lose.

    All true.

Wlad had also been told by his deceased long time coach that Fury was the future of the heavyweight division and Wlad acknowledged before the fight that Fury was an interesting challenge due to his length and movement, so while he underestimated Fury he knew in advance it was a tough fight. Plus Wlad on track to break nearly all of Louis's old heavyweight title defence records, which he coveted. Wlad's quite possibly the most obsessively disciplined, focused and motivated heavyweight champion in history, so the idea that he just couldn't be asked that night is ludicrous all over.

It was a clash of different styles hence the two completely different fights.

but yeah Wlad gave a very good account of himself.

It's a reasonable argument but as others have said a year and a half layoff doesnt make you better. What I will say is that Wlad's head was in a better space and he very nearly closed the deal.

Wlad's last impressive performance of his career was the 5th round KO of Pulev.

He looked shot to **** vs Jennings who is a mover and poor against Fury who is also mover.

The Fury fight came at a poor time for him because of the issues he was having with that crazy BPD actress who is the mother of his first child. This definitely affected his mental state and meant he went in not 100% mentally focused and ready for war. Regardless of that Fury still would have won that night regardless.

He was better against AJ only because AJ held his feet and had a bit of a war. Had AJ boxed and moved in that fight then it would have been an easy night for him too.

Fury fought the better version because Wlad was closer to his last impressive performance, the win vs Pulev.
