Joshua next fight realistically

Fury was younger than Joshua when they boxed Klitschko.
Klitschko had not lost for over 11 and a half years when he faced Fury in Dusseldorf.
Klitschko was over 41 years old when he faced Joshua.
Klitschko hadn't won a fight in over 2 years when he faced Joshua in England.
Joshua wasn't calling Fury out after his win in Dusseldorf but as he hasn't boxed in nearly 2 and a half years he is now.

 

You can only beat who's in front of you mate.

Just out of interest are you one of them boring old timers who are stuck in the past and always bang on about 'the golden era' of boxing?

Of course Martin should be mentioned. Whether he turned out to be any good or not he was an undefeated world champ and for Joshua a 15-0 prospect it was a step up regardless of how Martin is thought of. This business of how people are thought of also is shady. Martin came from nowhere and was beaten by Joshua soon after. I expect if Martin had of been known more and been around even if not scoring massive wins he would be thought of higher. What were the Ortiz wins that stand out to you, or was it just that he was known because he was on the side lines for a while? Consider Ortiz not long before facing Joshua was not looking amazing against M Scott and Allen. I wouldnt be shocked if Martin were to look more convincing against either.
I really couldnt say that I think Martin is at any different a level to Ortiz but would add Martin had youth on his side

Breazeale is possibly Wilders next opponent for what would be Wilders 8th title defence and 41st fight, so cant see hes that bad and that he shouldnt have been in the ring with a 16-0 Joshua having his first title defence

Dont disagree with most of that but I think he was calling him out. also I think you are trying to put a bit of a spin on it as although its not inaccurate to say Klitschko hadnt won a fight in 2 years, he hadnt fought for a year and a half and that was due to Fury not being available and having to cancel on 2 occasions.
So lets at least give the full picture and not just what suits

 

I saw a little theory that makes some sense, sounds interesting.

Hearn seems sure the mandatory (Povetkin) will be called for Joshua very soon unless they have another unification and the only possible one now is Wilder and let's be honest they don't seem keen on that right now.

Hearn was hoping Price could pull off a mini miracle, didn't happen, so he then wanted Whyte Vs Povetkin for a few reasons, that's why Hearn and Whyte were ringside within seconds of Price getting knocked out even though the week before Whyte was screaming for Wilder.

Povetkin has now turned down the Whyte offer, he has made it clear he is going after AJ, so it makes more sense the mandatory will be called.

Anyway, Hearn wanted Povetkin tied up with Whyte so he could kick that mandatory in to the long grass for a while and Joshua could go to the US and fight Miller, get another defence in, tap the US market and "build" the Wilder fight..

While hoping Whyte could end Povetkin because Hearn knows he can always stick Whyte on the back burner with the promise of a huge PPV AJ fight at some point down the road.

Problem is, if the Povetkin mandatory is called and they can't agree terms or don't want to (Povetkin side) then it will go to purse bids and Povetkin is backed by some very very wealthy people.

Dragging the Heavyweight World Champion to Russia would be a huge thing for the Russians, a huge statement, especially at this moment in time, sport and politics go hand in hand.

Obviously the reason Hearn don't want to lose a purse bid is because they lose control of the event, TV could be a problem and Joshua is right at the end of his contract, not a very good look for Hearn and Matchroom if they lose a purse bid to a bunch of Russians when he is telling anybody who'll listen he is the greatest promoter on the planet, He is the best man for AJ to work with and then Joshua is dragged to Russia and has to deal with all that when after the Parker fight he was saying he wanted to stay in the Uk.

So I am watching and waiting to see if they call this Povetkin fight and what happens afterwards, Hearn's reaction will be interesting if/when it's called, especially if it's now.

 

But surely though if AJ’s contract is running down and Hearn is worried about him renewing or whatever he would just make the wilder fight now. That’s the biggest cash fight out there at this moment in time. If you think you’re going to lose you’re prized asset then cash him in while you can.

 

Povetkin in Russia or Wilder in Vegas are the 2 I want doubt they happen tho.

I doubt Joshua/Povetkin would end up on any other broadcaster than Sky even if it was held in Russia- they have the PPV platform and I doubt BT etc would be able match their offer.

A fight in Russia would be a headache for Joshua and more so for Hearn- although Povetkin isn't the fighter he was he still hasn't been stopped yet, and Joshua would need the KO out there for sure.

 

Yeah I agree to an extent, personally I'd do that, but like I said it is just a theory I was reading on twitter, it interested me, might be a load of old rubbish but some of it makes a lot of sense in patches.

And what if Joshua don't want the Wilder fight right now? Not that he is frightened or ducking but just feels the time isn't right or whatever.

Hearn might be running a little bit of cover for him until he is ready or wants it, Hearn playing his role, proving to AJ he is the right man for AJ, shouldering the blame and making the excuses.

Loads of ifs, buts, maybes and guessing and double guessing and filling in large blanks.

let's say you outbid me in a purse bid, you would run the event right? So you would choose the broadcaster?

These Russians are very wealthy, it might not be all about the money, wasn't they going to pay Wilder $7 million before Povetkin tested positive, And considering Wilder got paid $2.1 million for Ortiz they went right over the top with that bid, and that's what I mean, If they want to they will throw a lot of money at it.

That's what I'm saying, it could get very complicated if Matchroom lose a purse bid.

Also with respect, would you want to go to Russia and fight a Russian who has failed previous drug tests? I wouldn't trust them would you?

I think if AJ blows Pov's team off and fights Wilder or Miller this summer then indeed the chances of WBA purse bids go up significantly. If Hearn offers the fight to Pov this summer in the UK they will take it without making too many demands.

Basically the ball is in AJ's court. Me personally, I would offer the fight to dumbass Wilder, if he refuses again then fight Povetkin and package Parker on the undercard (which he already stated he wants to be on it).

I actually think it would be a cool event if they staged Pov fight in Australia or New Zealand this summer with Parker on the undercard.

 

After Fury beat Klitschko Hearn said Joshua wasn't ready for it. He quickly came ready when Charles Martin was gifted a belt.

 

Cant say I recall seeing that and I dont think it would have been a likely scenario at that time as Joshua had only had around 13 fights and Fury and Wladimir were supposed to be rematching on two occasions after so cant see when or why that would have been said.
I dont think many HWs would have been ready with so few fights.
Still in fairness to Joshua in just over 2 years he has won the belts Fury vacated and in very quick time

 

I don’t think it’s too far fetched to be honest. There’s definitely some truth in it.

We’re also ignoring the fact that Eddie has said that they may “have” to vacate a belt.

If the WBA went to purse bids and AJ had to go to Russia I could see it getting vacated. You’ve got racism, drug abuse and loads of other excuses to cover Eddie.

 

Indeed, these are the same dudes who managed to get Wlad to come to Moscow. They can outbid Hearn comfortably.
