Joshua Stokes vs. Jonathan Castaño Montesinas, 4 rounds @ cruiserweight

 

Round 1

Castaño is putting on earmuffs and tries one jab before falling in and tying up. Stokes is doubling his jab into the body coming forward. Castaño leans in and flurries, then scurries away. Stokes walks him down, always doubling the jab, looking to impale him on a long right downstairs, grazing as Castaño pivots away. Stokes keeps plugging in the 1-1 up top and saving 2 for below. Castaño down, slip. A few more clinches. Wild hook by Stokes taking himself off balance and nearly eating shit in the corner just before the bell.

Round 2

Stokes is stalking, jabbing high (usually in multiples), and occasionally ripping a hook on the body. Wild jack-in-the-box attacks by Castaño at odd moments, after skittering around a while with his backside brushing the ring ropes. Strapping right on the jaw by Stokes after stinging Castaño with a quick whiplash hook on the liver to lay him against the ropes, and Castaño is down. He spends the rest of the frame running and diving in to clinch.

Ryan Kelly vs. Iliyan Veselinov Markov, 6 rounds @ middleweight

 

Round 1

Kelly is dashing in and slicing up the head of Markov with his 1-2. Cautious jabs while circling and intermittent can-opener rights at the head of Ruthless Ryan by "Bulgarian Flash". More work and more of it quality by the superior ring general here, the Brummie hometown hero.

Round 2

Markov is getting tagged up now as Kelly trots up to him, then carefully peers down through his guard. Markov remains economical, waiting for the rare spot to present itself and then hooking while turning Kelly, able to plant one flush on the jaw here and there. Kelly is driving in behind the jab, getting his left arm snatched from midair with Markov tying up to stall. Fairly slow final minute with a light sparring feel to it.

Round 3

Markov is changing directions as he strafes and jabs, and chopping with single right hands on Kelly's left temple as he comes in with combos, and then complaining about either low blows or rabbit punches. They seem like normal body and head shots to me; Kelly just taking what's given to him on the front-foot.

Round 4

Markov is bouncing on his toes, fleeing as Kelly pelts him with body shots from every angle with both hands. The crowd has been chanting all night, and now singing for Kelly but he remains locked in, preferring to fight in one gear, if anything starting to put a bit more starch on his left hooks downstairs - one of which drops Markov for a count of nine. The man from Sofia is then saved by the bell.
