There are basically two main body types in HW boxing-

The "Tall Timber" and the "Thick Squat" guys.

Best of the 'Tall Timber' = Lennox Lewis, the Klitschko's, Anthony Joshua.
They tend to have a long, lanky frame, but even the best of them can be ungainly and awkward when they have to move fast (like a giraffe = ungainly).
The best 'Tall Timber' guys have a good jab and a strong "finishing" hand. They fight tall and keep their opponent at bay. Their chin is a little suspect.

    TYPE 2 - "Thick Squat"

These guys tend to be shorter, more solid, more naturally powerful. They tend to have a granite chin and they move in a far more natural, fluid way. But they are shorter.

Shortest version of 'Thick Squat' = Mike Tyson, David Tua, Joe Frazier. (Explosive power).

Mid version of 'Thick Squat' = Carlos Takam, Andy Ruiz

Tall version of 'Thick Squat' = Luis Ortiz (6'3"), Joseph Parker (6'4").

For most of these guys, their problem is simple when fighting the best of the 'Tall Timber'. They simply do not have the HEIGHT to trouble the best of the tall guys. Thus even Tyson and Tua could not hurt Lennox. Simply not tall enough.

    WHY PARKER is SO CONFIDENT

Like many Samoans, Parker is basically a "thick squat" type. He has not fully filled out yet, but that is his basic body type. Except he is genuinely tall and fast for this type.

Parker has been fighting these "tall lanky" guys for his whole career. He LOVES fighting them. Almost always smashes them out. The most ominous words that Parker said at the AJ press conference: "I was surprised. He's not that big."

Was he talking about AJ's height? (2 inches taller than him). No.

He was talking about the overall frame of AJ - a "Tall Lanky" type, even though he tries to hide it with added muscle. This is Parker's very favorite type of opponent. Listen to the way Parker and Barry talk about this. Oozing confidence.

My prediction: AJ will not be able to keep Parker off. Just like every 'Tall Timber' guy he has ever faced, Parker will walk through AJ's jab and KO him. (Only way to escape it is to run like Hughie).

Parker wins by brutal KO within 7.

    Your thoughts?

LOL. Who is this Parker you speak of? Im getting confused, i thought i knew who Joseph Parker was, i thought id watched most of his fights, especially his latter fights where he has struggled agaisnt gatekeepers. You must be talking about another Parker, a superParker who smashes Joshua a likes all his career and beats up giraffes.

Short and squat, tall and lanky. There is like 3 inches between them.

I did, i just didnt take it seriously.

Parker has a shot, he is a good fighter, fast and heavy hands. I try not to overate AJ but i am a fan but just cuz Parker walked through low level guys with a similar body shape to Joshua he will be able to walk through Joshua. I think he is taking a bigger step up in quality than they, and you, realise.

Good analysis in some ways. The main problem is I just don't see Parker having the power to stop AJ. Hope its a good fight.

    i dont understand
you say parker is a squat and tall 6.4 body type who has not filled out yet ?

so that makes him a tall timber ?

No - Parker is the "Thick Squat" type.

But he is far taller than usual. That is why he always blasts out the 'Tall Timber'

    They are his absolute favorite.

Can Kiwi in America please give some examples of these tall lanky guys just like Joshua that he has been smashing out. Just so i can see if any of them have any of the positive attributes that Joshua brings to the fight. Thank you.

I hear people say Parker must have a solid chin, because of his heritage like David Tua.

Parker does not have the same heavy built short neck body type of Tua. I have my doubts about how he will hold up against Joshua’s thudding combinations. I think he could go mid rounds.

If you want examples from Parker's career, Dimitrenko may be best. Well-ranked when they fought.

Dimitrenko is roughly same height, weight and style as Joshua. (Not as powerful - but still a good test).

Others like Martz and Meehan were also that same Body type.

parker has a decent chance / he needs to be able to take joshuas power/ then outwork him and tire him out/ the right hand he landed on nacismento early on in his career will deck joshua.

but comparing joshua to other tall heavys parker has fought is not the way to analyse this fight

dimentrenko and corjanu fought negative with no will to win / while fury fought to nick the fight.

forget about those fights they are not relevant here

reason i give parker a chance is because he has sparred many many rounds with ogonuh who hits a ton and has fast hands and good technique /and if he never decked or wobbled parker in sparring then parker does indeed have a granite chin. and that will make it a hard fight for joshua.

Why did Parker take it easy on tall fighters like Fury and Cojanu? Fury you could say was running all fight, but Cojanu was coming forward without any issue.

There is a third body type. The "man mountain"

Valuev was one, Ustinov, Cojanu. Just great solid hunks of flesh. If they cover up and hardly take a risk all night, they can be hard to remove. Heavy, heavy punching bags.
