Both parents are Samoan though (especially considering the surname) his father is likely mixed. Samoans don't necessarily tend to get real dark.

Hughie was practically trying to jump out of the ring. AJ won't.

How mixed in general are the Samoan people of today? David Tua looks more Samoan to my eyes, Parker 50/50 or so.

Parker has a bit of German ancestry on his dad's side.

Ha, I started writing my answer to say that my family are fairly pale too then clicked that they also have German ancestry... so yeah... the Germans got quite friendly with the locals in Samoa when they arrived and lightened the shades up a bit. It's probably not that uncommon.

Vitali had an excellent chin. None of the Tall Timber types were Tommy Hearns like. Lewis and Wlad had big necks and impressive measurements. Wach was a tall timber type, and that guy took a heck of a shot too.

When it comes to good chins, they come in all shapes and sizes.

If you want a tall timber type at heavyweight, that would be Wilder.

Can Parker win? Sure, but he has to be willing to engage, and will need durability to off set Joshua's superior range and skills.

Before Joshua was a champion, you could argue Parker looked better than he did. But the luster has gone off Parker's star a bit as he barely defeated Andy Ruiz and Hugo Fury.

Joshua's weight looks to be lower for this fight, a sign he will be boxing more than slugging.

I give Parker a 1 in 3 chance for the upset. He's going to need to out throw Joshua, needs to be willing to mix it and MUST be active in the later rounds.

    AJ vs Parker:

    Height: AJ
    Reach: AJ
Age / wear and tear - EVEN
    Skills on offense : AJ
Skills on defense: Close, but I'll go with AJ
    Power: AJ
Stamina to box rounds at fast pace -Parker
    Chin / durability - Parker, I think.
    Heart - Even
Foot speed / Foot work - About even
Ring IQ / Ring Generalship - AJ

Best guess. Joshua via 9th round TKO.

Wlad Ko'd Paea Wolfgramm in 1 round, and toyed with and stopped Alex Leapai in 5 rounds. Both men were of Pacific Island descent. Neither had good chins, so this theory that Samoan's take the best shots is not so. Its all on an individual case basis. Some of them took good shots, others do not.

Example: Tua had an excellent chin, but in reality, he was so easy to out box and hit a ton. This is why most fighters didn't risk haymaker's against him. If you are a really good puncher, you have your own built in defense as the quickest way to get your chin checked in boxing is to swing for the fences like your hitting a heavy bag.

I think there is evidence that Parker is one of the few guys on the planet that can actually give "Tall Timber" guys a real BEATING.

I count AJ as "Tall Timber"

In 3 weeks we find out if I'm right.

You're going to want to familiarize yourself with these two fighters. Mike Tyson was shot to pieces. David Tua was a pretty one dimensional fighter his entire career. Had he a little more skill he would have won a title.

Point is those are two bad examples.

Decent analysis by the OP. Here’s a few more things to consider...

    AJ has more size
    AJ has more reach
    AJ throws more combos

    AJ has less speed
    AJ has less ring IQ
    AJ has less experience
    AJ has less confidence
    AJ has less durability

    AJ has no head movement
    AJ has no footwork
    AJ has no stamina

Neither has one punch KO power

To me, size is a huge factor so I say the fight is 50-50. My money is on Parker though. All you need to beat AJ is any two of Size, Stamina & Chin. If his claims are true and he has the last two, AJ falls.

Not neccesarily. Size counts for a lot in HW boxing. How do you think Voidimir B1tchko managed to cling on to the titles for years and years. AJ could be the next Void as long as he avoids Wilder and Fury like the plague.
